My post was not at all aimed at your comment, jwd, but at the claim in the ad that it "may have been in the movie..." I was suspicious reading that phrasing, because if it was one of the movie cars, the auction company for sure would have the provenance on it. To me it was just a ploy to increase interest in the vehicle.

And you are certainly correct that whoever did this one really worked hard to duplicate the correct appearance.

For all of you trivia fans out there....."Aunt Edna" was the one on the roof. I believe the dog was a bulldog and I specifically remember him wetting on the picnic basket right before they stopped to eat the sandwiches. Although Beverly D'Angelo was a looker, I think I'd be chasing after Christie Brinkley in the red Ferrari...

I forgot about that, and everyone could not eat them but Aunt Edna just kinda shrugged her shoulders and chowed rite down:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:

I may be wrong, but I think the dog was just a "mut" and not a b-dog. can't find a good pic though

Regardless if it was used in the movie, I love it. Does it have the gas tank lid on the hood too? Hahaha!

I dunno...Christie Brinkley looks like a fun one-nighter, but Beverly D'Angelo looks like the gal for the long run.

Not long after the movie came out I was in a Wrecking yard in town of Sun Valley in the San Fernando Valley,CA. called PDQ Auto. They were an all FoMoCo yard. In there were at least 6 of the movie cars including the wrecked one and two of the "thru the windshield" cars which were a body only from the firewall back with no frame plus one that was set up to be towed behind the camera car like a trailer with just two wheels in the rear.

Wish I had bought some of them:banghead3:

Ok. If the movie cars were 1980 models, then this auction car cannot be one of them. If so, it is still a very nice replica.

Well it ended up being bid up to $37,000, but did not meet reserve.
