This sounds familiar. There were a couple of local dealerships got in trouble for advertizing a cheap, older car and then you get there, car is gone, but while you are there, why dont you take a look at their other inventory. "They got some good deals you just might like."

 

Yeah they all do that. I'm going in there with blinders on though. Funny thing is back in 95 I bought a new T-Bird there when it was called Sunset Ford.

Forgot to check the VIN until now.
It decodes to what they say it is, so at least the wagon existed at some time, somewhere.

Looks like the wagon spent most of its years on the west side of the Los Angeles area. That's my neighborhood. I was born in Culver City, and bought my first vehicle at Santa Monica Ford.

This gives me a good feeling about the wagon. Shouldn't have the fried clear coat that so many Arizona vehicles have. Looks like pretty low miles, too.

 

Got another call from one of the sales geniuses at the Ford dealer. Says "You were gonna send us your VIN on the HHR....." I tell him "Yeah, and you were gonna send me some pics - I haven't even seen what it looks like." "Oh......OK."

 

Krash, Looked at the wagon today and got a bunch of pictures. I have to go out for a while but I'll load the pics and post them when i get home. It is a pretty nice wagon though.

I'm sure it's a very nice wagon - very low miles, a nice color combination (black / tan interior), rust free I'm sure. Hope the woodgrain is in good condition.

Now, assuming there's no downside, do I go after it?
And what's a reasonable price - NADA has 'high retail' at $8,387, but it didn't give any adjustment for low mileage.

My guess is they paid around $4,000 for it wholesale, maybe a bit more.

I don't believe the mileage yet, but, it doesn't bother me if the car's right. I don't like it going across state lines and not showing mileage from 2008. Nor do I like the old style sales tactics of the dealer.

 

Your call KK, just my 2-bits. It's a car lot of all places/people and they don't post a single pic and sure seem to have no intrest in sending you a pic or 2, yet call you and ask why nothing from you (vin # etc).

They IMO are not selling the car, witch I can't undestand why! We still get regular phone calls from the fellow who sold us my honey's Escape asking if we like, any problems, etc. The last one was the day before our one year with the Escape (Mothers day), wishing us a happy aniversary. Not mentioning sales, buy, etc, ever, just friendly BS'n

Also talked to the SWMBO. She's on board with the plan. Even has an improvement to it. We will not be selling the HHR. She will take over the HHR, and we'll sell the Exploder.
