I really don't care about it. I am curious however about the "big" exhaust later models. Some say that it contains a pre-cat but I can find no evidence of it containing anything. Have you ever seen the inside of one?

I'm going back out tomorrow to get some console location pics and dimensions on that 1981 Capri. I'll take a pic. The cannister bolts right up to the exhaust Manifold with 4 bolts. Its a Ford part and I'll check for a P/N.

Thanks, there is controversy as to whether the big cast part between the manifold exit and the down pipe actually contains a small catalyst or is it empty. I'm wondering if it has a cat inside whether that's heating up the intake manifold due to a restriction. However, my car runs and accelerates fin up to 85 or so mph. I've heard from other sources that it is just a big pipe to allow exhaust to flow better to the regular cat and allows for the A.I.R attachemt via the big coiled tube. It's actually quite small inside but looks huge I'm told.

It's a good 6" diameter. I think its Stainless steel too. At first I though it was something for a Turbo - wishful thinking. :rofl2:

Now this is juicy news. The 2.3L is a 200 six with 2 less pistons!

I got all sexed up with that 2.3 sired from a 3.3L! :rofl2:

It was a Front-wheeled drive unit for the Tempo/Taurus lineup. :(

Ok TBird, here's the 3.3L exhaust from the 1981 Capri:

    Profile shot from the front:
    1981200exhaust04.jpg

    Part numbers:

    Manifold:
????-6090-BB (the other numbers (?) are under the accelerator bracket.)

    Cannister:
    E1ZE-5246-AB

The open tube is the one that goes to the air cleaner. It's about 2" diameter for proportions. That cannister is part of the exhaust pipe, and is attached to the manifold with 4 bolts.

First time for me too. The Canadian emissions setups offered various ones for Ford's engines. The sixes got this or some other. This car didn't have the air pump either. Stock setup too.
