    Least desirable for 1979.

Us Pontiac Guys don't like to think about the 265's!!!!! With the oil pan off the bottom end looks like a Flat Head Ford with only 3 main bearings!

The 301 4bbl was an OK engine in a lighter body style with some rear gear. My Mother had a 1979 Grand Prix with a 4-speed manual and 3.08 gears. not a fast car but fun to drive. But that GP only weighed about
3600lbs. Most Safari's are going to weigh at least 600lbs more and have about a 2.56 rear gear. Makes for a scarry car to drive up a freeway onramp! I like a car that I don't have to push the gas pedal to the floor in normal driving.

Continues stalled at $5100 reserve-not-met with just under two days left on the auction. Any predictions? Very pretty Safari wagon, but not the best options.

UPDATE: Now $5900 with reserve still not met.

Last minute bid to $6000 with reserve met?! I question this one.

Well, what does that make mine worth then? I don't have the Rally II wheels, but I've got PW, P seat, tilt, cruise, and only 28,xxx miles.........

I really do question this one, Krash. I was watching right as the auction ended. Stalled at $5900 reserve-not-met for several days and then sells at literally the last minute for $6000?! Sounds fishy to me.

Yup - wouldn't be too hard for the seller to set up an automatic phantom bid under another username - at the last second.

I just don't understand the thinking behind that though. You set your reserve based on what you want to get for it - MINIMUM. If it exceeds the reserve, great. If it doesn't, you still have the vehicle and you're only out E-Bay's fee. I swear some of these sellers outthink themselves........

There are a few vehicles that may create a buyers frenzy, but you have to have at least 2 'money' players. Not all auctions get that.

Ok, here's the comparison. Loaded 1988 Safari priced now at just $5500, $500 less than this 1979 supposedly sold for tonight. I do think the 1979 is the prettier wagon and certainly the rarer at this point, but the 1979 has far less options. And the 307 versus the 301 V8 is a stand-off as neither one is ideal. I'll be very interested to see if the 1979 ends up relisted. :yup:

(Also having previously owned both a 1979 Grand Prix and a 1986 Grand Prix, I'd rate both build quality and interior material as noticeably superior in my 1986 model. Just my experience.)
