Thank-you jwdtenn and mercman for your kind words. Appreciate it.
Mercman, I know shipping to the east coast is very expensive. Bummer. I am holding on to some hope that someone will save her!
    Thank-you.

I would figure on about $1500 to ship a car on an open trailer from one coast to the other. It would be more for an enclosed trailer. Perhaps $2000. Shipping this car in an enclosed trailer from California to Pennsylvania would probably cost as much as the car itself, and that has to be a factor for anyone considering the purchase as cost+shipping is the true cost of the car.

The fellow that purchased my '73 Custom Cruiser in December had it shipped in an enclosed trailer from southern New Mexico to central Illinois. The distance was about 1300 miles, and it cost him, interestingly enough, $1300. Dollar per mile. I don't think it always works that way, but was just a coincidence in this case.

Right now, I am trying to figure out finances to allow for a road trip. It looks like it would be IP for the drive as long as new tires were fitted. I'm crazy enough to do that, too! I want this car! Someone save the old girl. Too much carefully fended history to see her crushed.

Good looking and well optioned Mercury. Appears well worth saving.

Good Morning and Good Day everyone,

Nice to see more comments regarding the wagon. I just wanted to add a few things. I do have a lot more photos, a bunch of the engine, but Craigslist limits me to 20 so I posted mostly interior and body. Jwd, I appreciate you adding the photo above, made my heart skip! Honestly everyone, when it is washed up she really shines. I simply did not have time to do that. I am going back over there tomorrow so I will see if I have time to clean her up, dust her off and re-photograph. I tried to upload on this site but it just did not work. ?? so I gave up. I know some were worried about the pine needles on the car...the pine tree is all the way on the other side of the house, in the back yard. It is extremely tall and Santa Maria/Orcutt is very windy. No trees above it and it is on the concrete slab. We had a car cover on it but the weather destroyed it, that wind just demolished it.
Ok, thanks again. Feel free to share all over the web. Lets find an awesome home for this 1977 Colony Park!

Hi Kasandra, first let me say my condolences, but also welcome. It is always great when sellers join up here when they discover their wagon being discussed on this forum and I hope that you stick around long after the wagon is gone. I can also see that you are juggling a lot things at the moment and I would imagine you must have some fond memories of this car in your life as well, so have you thought about putting it away for later (if you had the means that is)? These types of forums are littered with requests to find old family cars once some folk realise usually after a lengthy time that the car is gone for good. Just a thought.

Ok I am certainly no expert on any of these types of wagons at all but $2,000 for a loaded wagon like this in this condition that can be fully documented is no where near expensive, and I am surprised that someone from here has not snapped this up by now. I know the lack of pics (well explained!) in the beginning did not help though. Good luck with the sale and lets hope someone that is a wagon fan buys and restores it somewhat.

    Cheers Mike.

Hi Mike, I see you are in Australia. Love it there. Thank you for your condolences and kind words too. I think now that the wagon has more exposure someone will be able to save it from the crusher. Ah, what a thought, the crusher. So sad. Well, believe me I will post as soon as it gets rescued. Thanks again, Kasandra

P.S. I know what you mean about having regrets later on. There are so many emotions wrapped up with this wagon, my '79 Mercury Bobcat (runabout-that I gave back to my parents), my Dad's 89 Caddie and his 77 Ford pick up. We are selling all but the pick up. I used to drive the Wagon to high school-periodically and to college regularly! :) :(

If the time comes that you must finally get rid of the car one way or the other and it hasn't sold, you might consider donating it.

Car Talk runs a vehicle donation program. There's no guarantee that the car won't end up dismantled, but it might not be, and, either way, the proceeds go to your local public broadcasting station, and you get a tax deduction.

Just a thought. Things don't always work out the way we want them to, and sometimes you have to do what you have to do. With any luck, the car will sell to someone who will keep it and drive it. But you probably can wait only so long on this before you need the car to be gone. If so, there are alternatives to selling it straight to a junkyard.

    Hello everyone,

Wagon is still for sale, Orcutt, CA (Santa Maria). Buyers did not work out. I have new photos I will be posting on craigslist. The wagon is currently registered and smogged, and just passed smog again last week so a new certificate was issued.
Wagon needs tires. Took it for a spin on the freeway, sounds good.

Please share post and try to save this wagon. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Mom says it has to go by end of April, or it will be hauled off and crushed............ahhhhhhhhh! not good.

    Thanks, Kasandra :taz:

Seller, would you be willing to have some company pick it up and ship it? I have no idea yet if I'm willing to buy it or not, but I'm putting the question out there.

I am a bit confused here, crushing the car is going to get you about $500, maybe less with metal prices plunging at the moment. It seems $2000 is a tad high since no one has pulled the trigger. IF there is a change in price, I would like to know. I too am in Tennessee so shipping is a factor to me. I know shipping would be $800-$1000 since I recently shipped one this way from SoCal. I would be very interested in this car if price is negotiable a little.

Hi Bill, would you please make an introduction at the forum linked to below? I notice you joined in 2008 but what I quoted is your first post in the forum.

RE: questions regarding having a hauler pick it up: Yes, we will be willing to have a transport truck pick it up. We understand that there are vintage car and wagon buyers in other locations.

I have heard some people say the price is accurate, some say it is not. It is the price my Mom is set at. We had interested buyers in California last week that asked that the wagon be recertified with a smog check, so my Mom spent the money to do that. It is something that is asked for if the certificate is older than 90 days for California. It was almost $50.00, plus time to get it to and from the smog place. The people interested in buying the wagon buy and restore cars to SHOW level for competition. They did not want to invest that much into it to restore to show level. The other interested buyer decided on a different kind of wagon.
I have washed it, vacuumed it and cleaned it up a bit so it shows better now. I also updated the photos on Santa Maria, CA Craigslist. I still have not been successful in uploading photos here. I tried again, but it did not work. I have A LOT more photos, please message me if you would like more. I will be happy to email them to you. I will be back at my Mom's on Monday and can take even more photos if requested.
I do not know if I can get my Mom to accept a lower price. My Dad spent quite a bit on the engine (only put 160 miles on it since then) and my Mom remembers that. It has a new carburetor, looks to me like a new distributor, not sure but it sure looks new to me, new plug wires and probably plugs. It runs and passed smog. It is registered. The guys that looked at it last week offered 1200.00, my Mom said absolutely not. SO, having said that, send me any offers and I will present them to her. My parents have owned this wagon since 1977, she is a bit emotional about it, especially since my Dad was so obsessed with it in his elder years and he is no longer with us.
Long story but hope that answers some questions. Please feel free to ask questions and also make any offers so I can let her know.
I think my Mom has now decided to not send it to the crusher but to continue to find a buyer.
    Thank you everyone. Kasandra

Check out the updated ad and photos on Craigslist, Santa Maria, CA. thanks.
