    Well at $8,000 it might be saved. Don’t see someone paying that for a derby car. $2-3GS maybe. Regardless it’s not an $8,000 car.

    To pay for what it's worth as is, it would probably be hard to keep it out of the hands of a derby person!....Longroofs Rule!

    I was always surprised with the ‘71-‘72 Mercury’s that they had a completely different dash. Ford used the basic shell with different appliqués to take you from Custom to Brougham. Marquis and Monterey were just totally different. ‘73 saw a return to the same shell at Mercury for the top line cars. Those ‘71-72 dashboards on the Monterey line seemed Moparish to me.

    The Mercury dashes were always different from the Fords. The '73 - '78 dashes did actually differ between Ford and Mercury, it's just that the difference was very subtle. At least in '71/'72 the Mercury radios interchanged with the Fords (the only difference was the Ford or Philco i.d. versus Mercury). Check out the Ford and Mercury dashes in '69 -'70. Not even the headlight switch was the same.

    If you notice that Dodge dashes differed from Plymouths and Pontiacs from Chevys, the difference between Ford and Mercury may not seem so surprising.

    Although I'm not hopeful, I do hope there is a Monterey lover out there who will save this car. They're too rare. It'll have to be a labor of love, however. It's definitely not an $8K car.

    Yes I know the Ford and Mercury dashes were completely different. My point was that Ford used the basic dash design in the big Fords Custom to Brougham. In those ‘71-‘72 years and in ‘73 on up. The Mercury which had a standardized dash in ‘69 and ‘70 split off the Marquis from Monterey dash for those two years and went back to a standard stamp for all big line models in ‘73 on up. I have several ‘71-77 Ford’s and Mercury’s and agree somewhat similar there are a lot of differences. Even the ash trays are not really interchangeable.
