1970 Ford LTD Country Squire Wagon

    The steering wheel on this car is not factory. And obviously
    the seats,wheels,etc... Kind of a scary car to get into because you
    just don't know how much other stuff has been messed-with ???
    I do really like that year tho!

    Oil? What oil?

    When I look back at these older vehicles, they were all a bit less than reliable. Tires were good for 20K miles at best. I didn't find the GM vehicles to be any better for leaks, repairs, general reliability, rust (especially) or paint quality than the Fords or Chryslers. Where I did see an advantage was in the engine with respect to simplicity, parts cost and maybe an edge in mechanical durability. When it came to high visibility, Chrysler made a name for itself with the Hemi, Ford for the Boss series motors and Chevy with a somewhat generic big block and small block. Me? I like them all. And you are right about the school of hard knocks. I found I was mechanically inclined mostly because I owned a lot of these cars. In fact, I became a mechanical engineer partly because of the skills I developed fixing my wagon. ...I never burned oil though in my Ford wagons (Country Squire or Pinto) but I sure did in my Vega wagon...
