So, I am running 235R15's right now. Yeah. Truck tires. I'm wondering, the 90's caprice wagons came with 205s and 215s... Can I go that small? Should I go that small? The stock tire size is 225, but that still seems huge. Thoughts?
I thought the Caprice whale-wagons came with 225's standard? That's Buick is a big car, anything smaller seems like it would be too small? I have Cooper Trendsetter whitewall 225's on my '92 Custom Cruiser, also the standard tire size, I think they look kind of small in width compared to 235's. The whitewalls are almost mandatory on the luxo-wagons, the cars look "pedestrian" with blackwalls IMO.
Well that's what I was thinking. The 90s wagons seem to have the option for 205-225 (looking at Canadian Tire's tire-chooser) but the door says 225. I might do the 225 whitewalls then.
205/75R15s are way too small. That is what my 84 Delta 88 coupe had from the factory. They were on less than 6 months. 225/70R15s are the same diameter, and a good bit wider. They work well. Trouble is there are no GOOD tires that size anymore. By good, I mean higher than an S speed rating, and performance rather than touring or luxury tires. When Nora gets her next set of summer tires, I'm going to a 16X7 rim, and 225/60R16s. There is a lot more selection. because of the way I use Nora, white walls are not as important as the performance. I'm going to get a set of Pirelli P6s, which are a great tire. Too bad BFGoodrich stopped the Comp T/A HR-4 white walls. They were cheap, and fantastic, even if only rated for 50,000 miles.
I'm riding on Goodyear Wranglers P235/70R 15's. When I got the Buick it had 225's on it. Not only did I find the ride quality better going larger, I also chose the wraglers because of our frosty winters and black ice (they are also a very quiet tire), I like them so much in winter I bout a set for my honey's ride also. I chose for function and not looks, IMO where you live I'd be thinking of a good quality tire like that also. They have a good rating and all BC ambulances are swaping to them..... Some food for thought also, ICBC has a grey erea when it comes to tires and winter conditions, if you don't have 4 winter rated tires on your car and have a accident and it's believed to be tire vs road conditions you may not get covered.
Right now it's got a mismatched set of Maxxis Bighorn Radials... One is some other tire, but they're 235/70R15's. Maybe I'll stick with 235's but grab something that doesn't look so aggressive? The other option was finding a set of 14 inch Buick Rallye's, and throwing 225/80/R14's on them if I can find it... Or stick with 235's. I really have no clue.
225/80/R14's... 14's will ruin your ride quality all together in that big car. As for agresive, they don't look all that agresive .... to me anyways But keep in mind, I chose what I chose for my reasons. Trust me on this though, don't go 14's
I'm thinking I might be going the 225/75/R15 http://www.1010tires.com/Tires/Reviews/Yokohama/Geolandar+I-T+G072 for winter and then lower profile 225 or 235 (haven't decided yet -- need ot see how they look) BF T/A's for next summer
By the way, I have the same rims as you, but I'm missing two buick centre caps, any clue where to get them?
Not a eazy find at all, I'm looking for at least 2 myself if not a full set of 4. I'm running the Olds caps on mine now.
Radial T/A's look really good on these wheels. 235/70/15 .....and yes I miss that car.... :banghead3: -Mike
