A friend of mine had a 1958 Fury in high school. His was a 4 door tho. You can tell cars in the guys blog about the Furys in the wrecking yard were movie props. because Plymouth didn't actully use that pattern on the 2 tone cars that year. They were painted that way by the movie production. The real 58's had more white.

That ^ is a model. Most of the wrecked cars were models. Also, *ALL* "golden commando" 58 Fury's came in Beige and white 2 tone, like all the rest in the line in the beginning of the movie. None the less, they wrecked plenty of fury's and belvedere's, just not golden commandos.

I don't think this yard exists any more. Years ago, when in California for the Spring Fling Mopar show, we were told about this yard (I think it was called something like Bob and Ted's). It was a few years after your Christine pictures were taken, so we knew the Christine cars had been there at one time. Anyway, several of us drove for over an hour to get there knowing it was a Mopar Only yard. We had cash in hand, and each of us had shopping lists. Upon entering the office, we were told no one is allowed in the yard (not appreciated but not necessarily unusual), and they wouldn't get parts without being paid first. Normally none of us would buy parts sight unseen, but seeing some pristine vintage trim pieces there at the parts counter, and being able to see some of the cars through the fence, a couple of us pulled out our wallets and shopping lists. "69 Dart tail lights?" "No we don't have any Darts. " How about that mostly stripped out 69 just inside the fence?" "We're not parting that out." "66 Fury grille?" "We don't have that, and we're really not open today." They were quite rude and we left. Between us, we spent over a thousand at two other yards. Closed or not, the place looked open and there were a couple of their regular customers there buying stuff for Dodge Diplomats , Aspens and Caravans.
I really don't understand this mentality. If they were no longer selling parts off the classic Mopars so they could e-bay them or something, then why not just tell us. If they were really closed, why wait till we had gone halfway through our shopping lists before telling us.

I had this situation just yesterday Jim. I've seen a rusted out hulk of a Monte at a shop for a long time so stopped off to see if they'd be willing to let me buy and remove the front stereo speakers (I need the brackets as mine are missing) and got a nope, going to restore it. It was far far far beyond restoration hope. Seriously, the only two things left on the car that were even remotely salvageable were those speaker brackets, everything else was either already gone or rusted through completely.

    Oh well...........

Jim, maybe it was the Mob's day out.

My dad and I owned a junkyard in Southern Ontario. We had to deliver our scrap on appointed days or they wouldn't take our load. The truck broke down one time, and we were loaded (overloaded in fact), and we carried on and stayed overnight in the truck to drop off. There were more black limousines parked around us, at 5:00 AM, than you'd ever see at a celibrity funeral. SCARY people. The owner let us unload, and told us to never do that again. He knew my dad for 15 years working for another big scrap metal company. Pop took his money and we just looked at each other and decided it was time to sell.

There is a yard here in Kansas called Happy Jacks I believe, he probably has 20-50 acres of old iron. I'll see if I can track down the contact info.

There's a fellow I used to buy 57 Pontiac parts off of who lives near Edmonton, Alberta. Real nice fellow and I'm sorry to have lost touch with him.

He was down to the coast one time to pick up a '5/6/7 power seat base I had given him and he had some pictures of a wrecking yard in Northern Alberta that was full of vintage cars. I mean rows of them and quite out of the way. Kind of his own private gold mine find. That was only four years or so ago and I don't think it was as far North as Peace River. I got the impression for some reason that it was maybe an hour or so outside of the 'chuck. I'd like to find the place and go mining myself some weekend.

Sometimes it is worse knowing something like that is out there and you don't know where versus just not know at all:rofl2:

I can totally relate Safari .... I happened to see a rotton body of a 65 Mercury Monterey a ways back through the fence of osmeones yard while driving around town here. One day I decided to go up to the door. Drove over to see if they wanted to get rid of the body. Id only take what I needed from it for my Parklane since they are essentially the same car. I asked the dude who answered and he said no, they were going to restore it. This car would take endless amounts of money to raise from the dead. Rust isnt as bad a thing as its made out to be, but this Merc was way beyond rusty, the body was rotton, rot had eaten the panels so badly they were falling off the frame. Still the guy didnt want to sell. He was far and away one of the dumbest people ive ever met. That 65 Monterey still sits there to this day ...... rotting.
