This one has a few issues of its own. It was built in 1961 and as been very well maintained but not updated much. We've been weighing the pros and cons since making our offer last week. I'm still of a mind that the pros column is bigger. The house is roughly 200 feet outside of the city and backs onto a "hazard" property owned by the Township. That's a protected patch of land and the piece directly behind the house is technically a park surrounded by houses on two sides and forest on the third. As it can't be accessed except through the backyards of surrounding houses it's like a private park. Folks in the area take turns mowing it to minimize the Townships' need to come sniffing around. Because it's outside of the city the street has no sidewalks or streetlights but is close enough to the city that it has City water and sewage. The best of both worlds. The house sits on 1/3rd of an acre which is a bit much for a computer nerd to mow but I'm willing to risk it for the quiet semi-country life. The house was owned and built by an architect so it's a little quirky and really different from everything else on the street and that suits me just fine.

Good luck CyberW. Nice looking place and great drive way. That set up looks like the best of all worlds, in the country, yet city hookups and close to town.
Lucky for you the dog house does not go with the place.:rofl2:
It does appear there's room to drive around back from the left side. Future shop!!!!!!! Or the hole in the rear wall idea. My grandparents had a garage door in the back of their garage. I really don't know why because I don't remember it often being open for anything. Still handy to get lumber and large things in back yard.
We're planning, mostly dreaming right now, of moving back to Illinois and downsizing. Our five acres seemed to have grown too large to handle.

I can't believe the flat or semi flat roof in Canada.

    Winter storage

Starting to think about packing Lil Sis away for the winter. I called a few storage places today...:49: yikes they want alot of $$$. However one place put me onto a fellow who has a steel building with a gravel floor. He rents our spaces it can hold about 100 cars/boats. I put my name on the list for November 1st. but I'm hoping to go have a look at the place next Friday.
So what else do I need to think about? Should I fill her full of gas or keep empty? Add some additives or not? Have her undercoated or not? Throw in some moth balls or dryer sheets or not?

    :confused::confused::confused:

Full tank of gas with stabilizer, YES!

    I also remove the battery.
Moth balls....NO!!, you'll never get the smell out. In my teen years a friends Dad or Grandpa did the moth ball storage and basically ruined a great car :slap:

I drafty barn park my Olds every year, I do the fabric softener sheets every winter, lots. It does not over kill the smell but for some reason bugs, rats, and mice just don't like it, I also place a lot under the hood to keep critters away and yet to have found any evidence of critters/cob webs under the hood. I leave a couple windows cracked just a bit and for caution drape a few sheets of the fabric softener just to be safe but mainly to let the car breath a bit, even inside the barn it can get damp at times. I also place several news papers inside to collect moisture. Then I buy Deb new bed sheets:rednose: as I cover the car to prevent tarp scratching (I tarp it loose also so it can breath). But I also don't just leave the car all winter, I periodically on nice days run the car and open the doors etc for a few hours.

Spreading some critter ridder and or cedar chips under the car is a good deterrent also, I've yet to have any infestations prioud yet all around in the barn are droppings but they stay away from the car.

Yes, add Stabil, fill tank and run it through. And don't put any baited traps outside the car as that just draws the critters in! get some of those moisture absorbers such as DampRid. Maybe get the tires off the gravel, up on some 2x6 pressure treated blocks.

I tried the fabric sheets in my Pontiac and still mice set up residence inside. They don't seem to last long. What kind did you use?

Being an RV'er I was always reading about winter storage and heard that mice hate peppermint. Buy the bottles of liquid and pour some on cotton balls and place them in cups.

I've heard that too but forgot all about using peppermint. Oddly in central Illinois and NW Florida we never had rodent problems in RV's or cars....... yet! We did spread cheap dryer sheets anyway. Keeps the moldy smell out.
A lot of people here have squirrels eating the wiring.

Bounce, has worked every winter for me.

The peppermint idea, OK.... peppermint and moth ball smell in the car, not sure about that............

Also as for buying the moisture absorbers, been there done that. You get the same if not better results from news paper and it free in everyone mail/recycle box :yup:
