Gotta rub my eyes to look at this one. And rub them again. Rube Goldberg, roll over!

    Waterbag

See the waterbag hanging from the driver side mirror? I need a photo of one of those hanging from the front bumper. My dad put them around the hood latch so they'd hang in front of the grille; theoretically, it helped keep the car cooler on the long hauls across the desert.

    Rickety Parking Structure.

That's one of those elevator parking structures, I think. The attendant would raise or lower the entire structure to the level that contained your car. They also made ferris-wheel types for awhile. Guess it's just a matter of how valuable the land is and how scarce parking is in this town....

    Impressive!

You, sir, are amazing. I read these posts for an hour and didn't get through half of them. How in hell did you find all of these yourself?!

For me, it felt like a timewarp. And while I currently drive and cruise in a Buick longroof, as I look at these photos from my youth and before I realize that station wagons were simply utilitarian vehicles and were not glamorous -- AT ALL -- in the era when they were popular.

Anyway, these 10,000 pictures of everyday wagons were worth wasting a Sunday morning browsing through and thinking back. Thanks for the extraordinary effort.

I've got one of those water bags. Always had it hanging up in my garage.

Mine hangs in the trailer. Actually says Safari on it. The wife found it somewhere on one of her antiquing shopping day-trips.
