These were the "home guard" ?. A lot of those wagons were shipped to New Zealand where they were used by US forces . My Dad was in a childrens home in South Auckland during WW2 and remebers seeing a lot of woodies being driven by the yanks. Mostly desk drivers he thinks as the combat guys ( officers and SP's) all drove Dodge 4x4 command cars. The rest were driven around in the back of trucks. :)

Australia . Thats an Australian 1960-62 Ford ,they were a few years behind the rest of the World, and a 1962 Holden EK station wagon .Both probably brand new when that picture was taken. And the location looks like the Old Bank agency at Nimmatabel ,New South Wales.

That would be the late Mickey Thompsons Challenger 1 wouldn't it? imagine what was under the hood of the wagon considering Challenger ran four Pontiac Engines...:thumbs2:

i continue to be amazed at the odd 'foreign 'cars in these pictures. Above i can see not one,but two late fifties English Fords,a Mk2 Zephyr and a Mk2 Consul and to the right, the black car with the white roof is a Vauxhall PA . A very stylish car from GM England. imagine if the political aspirations of the union bosses had been channeled towards productivity, the US would have a fleet of English cars instead of Asian...perhaps..:)

    Another OZZIE ,
    :drink:
Very old New south Wales number plate ,but the Oz ford in the back ground is a 1970's Fairlane so I would say that it had just been retired from Hearse Duties.

Possibly not a 1957 Chrysler but a 1960 or 61 Chrysler Australia AP2 . Built on a 1953 Plymouth Cranbrook Chassis with 1956 plymouth and Dodge fenders they had the commonwealth (canadian built) 313 polysphere V8's and the sidevalve six engines .Trans could be an automatic or three speed with overdrive as an option.
