My brothers and I may be city boys (truthfully, Navy brats), but just belonging to the Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts gave all four of us basic survival skills. And my oldest brother Fred was 82D ABN, I'm sure he extended his survival skills during his service.
BTW, Fred also was at Ft. Ord, IIRC, for his Basic (I was nine back in '74), and Dad, a Navy LCDR, had Navy business down in California, right when Fred graduated. So Dad showed up to his graduation in uniform. Fred said two things: 1) the only time he saluted Dad; 2) all his buddies vaporized when they say Dad!

This pic shows the old location and layout of Riverside Raceway overlayed onto a photo of the new shopping center and homes that were developed since the race track closed. In 1991, we ALMOST bought a home only a few hundred feet from the long east straightaway of the old race track. The home we wanted to purchase was where I marked the blue diamond.

Nalley's Fine Foods was located in the Nalley Valley in Tacoma, WA, about where SR 16 and I-5 meet. The bridging on 16 to connect to I-5 is called the "Nalley Valley Viaduct."
