That bumper sticker said "McLa--" as all I could see.

The founder of the McLaren racing team, perhaps?

Nope. Bruce McLaren died in one of his Can-Am racing cars on the English Goodwood circuit, in 1970.

    RE:
That Renault Dauphine on the previous page with the crushed front end....

I seem to recall something about these not being very good in crashes, but maybe it was Volkswagen just starting rumors. They DID have the spare tire/wheel up front, behind a lower valance panel, sort of acting as crash protection (but it's actually way too low to be of any good...) In fact, you can see the spare tire sitting on the ground in front of that Dauphine.......

It wouldn't be surprising, if they indeed were poor in crashes. Let's not forget that collapsing steering columns and seatbelts became industry standards in the U.S. Although, the Germans, Swedes and Brits voluntarilly pioneered certain safety features.
Look where that steering wheel on that Dauphine ended up. Whoever took that upper cut wasn't loaded into that '58 Ford wagon by medical staff. The engine having been mounted in the rear didn't help the driver much either

I remember very well reading in the paper about the solo accident on Santa Monica Bl, in Beverly Hills, that killed comedian Ernie Kovacs..... The little Corvair station wagon was his, most likely used by his housekeeper, but he was driving it that night.

The text states it had been his wife's car, and they had traded cars at the party they were attending. Partially thrown from the car, and his cigar near his hand.

Back then, wives were referred to as housekeepers? Was this guy even funny?
