    Well, it’s been an on again, off again project, but I finally got the four barrel installed in the Fury.

    My buddy from our manufacturing facility came over Friday and we set to work.

    Looked pretty good inside. I am pretty sure this is the first time it’s ever been opened up.

    I won’t be able to run the stock air cleaner assembly. So I went with the standard auto parts store chrome model. Funny thing is, I’ve had that sitting on a shelf in my garage for over 15 years.

    Got the oil changed Saturday and drove is a little bit locally. So far I’m quite pleased.

    Not strict it was fun.

    my older daughter brought her old running group from grade school too.
    There were 3 girls 2 boys.
    The younger spent the weekend helping her bf put new fender flares on his 4x4.

    The boys have been collecting scrap and aluminum cans since they were 3 years old and recycling it. About once every three months we take a truckload to the scrapper. I usually leave the truck home so they can load it and I drive something else to work in the morning. Then I go home and collect them on my lunch break and take in the load.
    Today was one such day and I decided last night that I would drive the Fury to work. I noticed that I needed fuel so I stopped at the local Maverick on my way in. As I was approaching the station I noticed a very nice looking 57 chevy 150 two door wagon fueling up. So naturally I had to pull into the pump next to him.

    he was talking to another fellow most of the time I was there. But I did get to peek inside. It was very nice. He walked over just as I was finishing up and he complimented the Fury. We both where on our way to work so the conversation was brief.

    Just a cool way to start the day.

    I looked at the carb/intake pics just now, great that you had someone to do the work. I have a Dad story which I'll tell in a minute.
    There was some chunky carbon in the valley which should've been carefully cleaned out. There's just as much of a chance of it coming off on its own because of the cleaning power of today's motor oils, as you or someone picking/vacuuming it out, and getting sucked up into the oil pump pickup. You should've also pulled the valve covers, cleaned out the crankcase ventilation filter baffle, and cleaned any chunks of carbon in the head top and rockers. Then cleaned, sanded and painted the valve covers so they'd match the intake along with new gaskets.

    So, back when Dad was stationed at the Seabee base at Davisville, RI, our '56 Ford wagon's carburetor started to act up. So Dad asked one of his Seabees, who had grown up on a farm and knew how to repair machinery, to rebuild his carb, for a few greenbacks under the table. So the guy does it, car's running great, and when he goes to collect, he shows Dad a box, tells him something to the effect of, "Your engine runs great, but I had all these leftover parts." Dad said his eyes got wide, then the sailor told him not to worry, the parts were extras used by other, similar carburetors....

    Yes there was, we cleaned that out.

    I removed the valve covers a few years ago, sandblasted them and then repainted them. I reinstalled them with new gaskets at the time. They are virtually new, so didn't need to be replaced.

    Yes, we're all champing at the bit here.
    And, good show on the carbon trash, but the valve covers still needed a clean and paint to match.:huh:

    It's definitely better. I was surprised at how much the exhaust note changed! I need to get the jets in the secondary's dialed in. Doesn't quite have the oompf I was expecting yet when they kick in. So still a work in progress.

    Well, The Fury survived another winter of hibernation. I got it out a week or so ago and decided to pick up where I left off. If I have increased the volume of air going in, then I need to increase the volume of air going out.
