In Michigan it seems to be the opposite. Go downstate where people make a lot more money and the price is always lower. I've seen it 40 cents lower than up here. Up here is a permanent economic depression, even when the economy was good it was that way. Even in Traverse City, which is the "big city" of the north and has the most and best paying jobs for up here, gas is less than any other up north areas.
YOU GOTTA LOVE GARFIELD 'S EXPLANATION -- TOO CUTE & ALSO TOO TRUE!!! A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country. ~~~ Well, there's a very simple answer. ~~~ Nobody bothered to check the oil. ~~~ We just didn't know we were getting low. ~~~ The reason for that is purely geographical. ~~~ Our OIL is located in: ~~~ ALASKA ~~~ California ~~~ Coastal Florida ~~~ Coastal Louisiana ~~~ Coastal Alabama ~~~~ Coastal Mississippi ~~~~ Coastal Texas ~~~ North Dakota ~~~ Wyoming ~~~ Colorado ~~~ Kansas ~~~ Oklahoma ~~~ Pennsylvania ~~~ And Texas ~~~ Our dipsticks are located in DC ~~~ Any Questions? NO? Didn't think So.
Gas in Utard went from $2.99 to $3.49 in seven days! Man we are just being gouged here and nothing seems to help. Utard had a protest no-drive day, didn't change a thing.
So freaking true! We just got gas paying $3.49.999999999999999999 a gallon. The last time we got gas it was $3.18. The problem with a gas usage boycott/strike is that it won't do a damn bit of good with only a few people doing it. It would take most of the country (because you know some just won't do it no matter what) plua people from other countries joining in. Basically it would take a massive amount of regular daily drivers from everywhere to make the effort of a week not using to make a big enough dent for the companies to really take notice and even then they will just probably raise the prices even more as a retaliation...
Not buying gas for a day does absolutely nothing. It only moves all gas sales to surrounding days. Not a penny is missed by the oil companies. They laugh at us. Now, OTOH, a massive No Buy Gas For 30 Days (or more) protest would have an impact, but the odds of that actually happening are not good.
As written, if everyone stopped driving for a week the only thing that would happen is prices would go up more so those a*^#holes would still get their large saleries and bonuses. And like how many people stick together for anything today? I remember when truckers parked a few days over the 55 MPH speed limit and again for diesel costs rising. Maybe 0ne driver parked for every 10,000 who didn't! Realy helped diesel prices didn't it?
I don't know if anyone noticed it but there was an article on yahoo news recently talking about big banks and how they invest in the commodities market. The jest of it: In our big banks' portfolios are a lot of physical assets that they hoard for leverage purposes. That way their assets aren't all tied up in various accounts & stocks, but also physical tangible items like corn sitting in warehouses, real estate, oil & gas, etc. The big banks want to start constructing massive long-term oil & gas storage facilities similar to the US strategic oil reserve: only strictly for financial investment purposes [i.e. to control prices & drive up the prices as they see fit]. They think the fed isn't going to let this fly, but no one really knows for sure right now. If they get their way, and can start hoarding millions of barrels of oil they'd be able to make the price of US gas as high as they please. And where would that money be going? Well most the major holders of the federal reserve are big European banks, except for a couple that are here on wallstreet. We could be paying European gas prices only instead of it going to taxes to pay for infrastructure it would be lining the pockets of bankers. :banghead3:
European banks basically own the world, our government and us. It's been coming for a long time. We were taught as kids to put our money in banks and get good credit by borrowing. Bankers thought of this and it worked. Buy land and own a piece of America. How many of us actually OWN property or much of anything else?
