I'd do it in the ceiling - a console up there. Run a couple of sheetmetal rails to the next crossbar (over the front seatback) from the front window sheetmetal, and then build your own box, put some cavities for tapes or CDs and some dense foam to not bump your head on it. Run the wiring back to the A-Pillar (Power, speakers) and connect to the stock wiring.

I've got a feeling that where mine was built in Mexico, they also built Granadas, because I've got the hoop-type like yours, but the Fairmonts all come with the cardboard insert types.

I took mine off easy, and re-dyed it. You just have to use a new blade in the utility knife and gently, slowly peel back the edges from the contact cement around the doors and the front at the windshield, and maybe cut the hoops to fit into the new rails. I'm going to install mine back on until the Spring, and build a box over the winter, between the other zillion projects, and install it that way.

    More 'closet' space.:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Here's a blurb on removing it to replace it with a new one, but just change the cutting and chopping language to 'gently and slowly peel back'. It won't lose it's shape or anything, honest! :)

well bucko have you looked into one of those boxes to put the radio in ???and you can mount it under the dash out of the way or in the glove box or where ever,,,,,,and i would hate to hack up any of the dash on that ford of yours,,,, and mopar guys deal with routing power from the stock radio to the glove box bound stereo is way cool,,,,,,i put 6x9,s in boxes for the maliboo and cutlass because i could not bear to cut up any of the interior panels and i was able to get higher performance front speakers for the stock in dash speakers for both cars and the amp is hidden under the seat,,,, i aint thumpin snoop dog or fifty cent but it sure makes hank sound good :yippee:

Sure is. But I need the special "Tri-way" antenna in order for it to work. :(

They pop up on Ebay from time to time, but they always sell for BIG money!

I had a 1980 Eldorado with a factory installed AM/FM/CB & 8-Track Stereo all together! That was a sweet radio! You could set it on monitor and listen to music and if someone broadcast on the CB the music would cut out and you'd hear the caller.

It was great on those highway roadtrips so you'd hear the truckers talking about where the speedtraps were! :)

$arge, I went digging in my 'junk box treasures' and looked at the AM/FM/Cassette. It's a Sanyo universal mount (you can adjust the knob distance, and it would fit an ordinary opening. The adapter plate is for the Standard Fairmont opening (higher). But the radio body is the regular height.

It needs head-cleaning at least and maybe alignment, because it did chew up one of my tapes. But the whole thing works - not burnt out. I used my own Fairmont knobs on it, so yours would probably fit. Wiring diagram is pasted to the shell.

say man thats awfully cool of you, but the only thing is that only a pushbutton radio will work in that beast. the face of it has a plexi cover with theknobs and pushbuttons only pushin through. i think i will wire something under the seat or directly under the dash... but thanks for looking!!!
it will problably be after feb though. im studying for rank, testing cycle is in feb. and im looking into becoming a $h!t bagger (flyer) so i have to retake my qualification test, so needless to say i come here for the laughs and to take my mind off of the work. but hopefully ill still be able to get the slamma-jamma done...
from one cool-arrow (culero lol :rofl2: ) to another i sure do appreciate your help though.

Hey $arge, here's THE solution! HandyAndy's tip about Internet Radio has given us Music from la tierra madre.

I used the Window's Media program and it gives you a bunch of associate rebroadcasters with all their ads. I used google for Radio "Monterrey Mexico" and got some generic lists.

Here's one that lets you pick from most major Cities:
    http://enmedios.com/radio/radio_nl.htm

    Also found this one:
    http://www.batanga.com/music_videos_artists/mexicana.htm

Now, the trick is to figure out a Wireless Internet connection inside the car without buying an iPod or Cell.
