I worked on Babe some more, I installed the phenolic spacer with new gaskets, found a vacuum cap for the 1/2" vacuum port on the back of the carb, but also found that the kickdown lever I found in the junkyard a couple years ago is 1 1/4 to 1 1/2" too long. Anyway, fresh oil in the engine, pulled the dizzy and hooked up to the oil pump drive rod to pre-oil the engine. I put the dizzy back, set the timing physically (engine was at 8* BTDC on the #1 cylinder, I hope), and put together vacuum lines for the dizzy vacuum advance. Here's to hoping that it works.

Picked Lil'Sis from the garage this evening on my home from work. The cashier couldn't find the bill asked if we would wait until the mechanic came back from test driving a car. Hubby and I are waiting outside when the cashier calls me inside to the phone. The owner tells me the spring pocket had already been done??? Wants to know had I had the car some where else??? No I tell him, I asked did they repair it when they had the car two years ago? Neither on of us could remember how the repair was done. I told him no worries it was he best news I ever got from a service call.
After I got home I checked my receipt shoe box and discovered that both sides were repaired within days of each other Aug. 2016...:90:

Nothing like getting a repair done twice, for extra measure

Haha. I bet the mechanics were in there thinking, “I didn’t do it, did you?”, “no, you think she’s testing us?! Did we do something to deserve a trust test?” Haha! I used to do a similar test in the back in the bad ol’ Days when in the company of less than reputable strangers. Leave a $5 bill out in plain sight to see who picks it up

You were a trusting soul. We just ripped the corner off of one and tucked it under something so they couldn't see it wasn't a whole bill. As kids, we used to heat up pennies with a cigarette lighter and throw them on the ground near the bus stop. Invariably, old depression era folks would try to pick them up.

There was one old guy who would visit every phone booth once a week looking for dropped change. He had to spend more in gas than he found.

Each winter, I would have snow banks all around the station from plowing. When it started to thaw, I would go out every day and look at them. Always found bills frozen in the banks and found $100's a couple of times.

Do you realise that you just admitted to commiting a federal offence, through disfiguring a treasury bill? Lucky for you, there's a statute of limitations preventing prosecution. Or is there? Looks like it's presidential pardon time

At least he didn’t take pictures: http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/threads/volvo-s80.44541/ I like that idea of ripping the corner off, then they don’t get to keep the money. Either way your paying five dollars to weed out the idiots. When I lived out west (Nashville) in the hood I would walk up to the corner store and every time I would get harassed by the locals getting drunk and high in the back alley that I would walk through. Every time they ALL wanted a dollar. So I went up there one day with about $25 and handed out $5 bills and said “all right! Now, you all owe me $5. So when you see me coming don’t ask me for any money unless you’ve paid me back.” Not only would I receive a hearty welcome but one day a guy I didn’t recognize was up there, he jumps off the couch, (yes they had a couch back there) he make a bee line for me with hand out and all the other guys were “naw, naw man that’s the “patna” (partner) there, let him come on through” :rofl2:high fives and hand shakes all around. I felt like king of the junkies

Well that was short lived. I was out doing some errands this morning. At one point I went to start Lil'Sis and she wouldn't start. Short version, Hubby crossed the solenoid and got her going. So it looks like we need a new one. So much for that little bit of money saved.

Waitwaitwait! If the solenoid was bad in any way, the starter would never work, even when jumped like that. You need to use a test light, verify there is voltage coming off the solenoid trigger wire. If there isn't when using the key, either the manual lever switch on the trans is bad/out of adjustment, or the ignition switch is bad/out of adjustment. The current path of the solenoid trigger circuit needs to be confirmed good before condemning the solenoid or starter motor.

Agreed. Hubby has actually started and moved her around in the driveway since I got home yesterday. He'll check her out. Thank you. :)
