Let me throw out another idea. Have the event in different and convenient regions, all hooked up by live video. Might as well use current technology and 'get together' despite distances. People will crawl out of their tents and motels and show up before lunch, so that would give us 6 to 8 hours of face-time per day, over a few days, without a big donation to Exxon, et al. Use Picture in Picture systems and have one-on-one chats, and recordable video for later memories and brag rights. Just a thought.
I am a member of another car club, primarily local, called the Chariots Of The Dead. I remember the first show/gathering I went to, there were only three hearses there, all local. The next year, there were six or seven hearses joined by one little black station wagon. http://www.flickr.com/photos/marknmanna/2444049565/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/marknmanna/2444876190/in/photostream/ There are some videos from a couple of the shows, most of which are mine. http://www.youtube.com/user/Xavier369#p/a They have there own sites and this is their youtube site. http://www.youtube.com/user/ChariotsoftheDead Each year they grew and grew. The last show I was able to attend had members coming from as far as Illinois and Texas. A gathering of the wagons is a brilliant idea. It is totally possible. And it should happen. Both my wife and I agree on this. We must also warn you all... from my wife and me both... If you have a collective show before we get a wagon THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY!.. um... I mean. Well yeah okay I know that that wont happen because I will have one shortly... P.S. The Chariots of the Dead sign is one of my glass carvings. I did it just for the show and the club. The next year I made the awards for the contests.
I was curious to know what inspired the initiation of this forum, and has it met the expectations of it's creator? SF are you going to attempt, some form of, this wagon train dream?
if Idaho is in my back yard....im movin!! ps...if i recall.... Boise was about a 12 hour drive from my joint
You guys figure out the time and place, once we have a wagon that is, and we'll be there. I'm not sure what all I could do to help but if there is anything in any way that I could do to help get this up and running for us all I'm here. What's wrong with Idaho? I mean its Idaho.
12 hours from your place...lets do the math.... ...we are maybe 50 miles apart....but I'm on a island... ....F******* ferrie waiting time, ferrie travel time, waiting to get off the dam boat..... ...Yup, thats about 24 hours from my place and would cost a few extra big bills$$$
Idaho...well it's a little bit of a drive for me, but I'm closer then some...Ok where in Idaho and when??? We'll be staying over, right? Holy Geeze, I just googled it...3300 miles from my door step to Idaho. But...Wisconsin is only 1700 miles and is a bit more central
...i guess its been a few years since i looked at a map of N.America lets see...im on the southwest corner of Canukia(Teddy a 100 bucks east of me)....Fannies on the southeast corner.....so middle of the Earth would be roughly....Nebraska?Iowa??
Guys on the Torino forum I'm on did some fancy math calculations and determined middle Tennessee was the center of mass for the members. That's 900 miles from me in Texas, and it's real close for some of the *AHEM* moderators of that forum *chuckle* and that's fine by me. I think we should do the same. Members interested can pinpoint on a map where they're at, or give a zip code. Then I can do some fancy number crunching and determine center mass for a meet. How much you wanna bet it's Kansas City or Davenport?
South Dakota would be nice, I've allways wanted to see it again....yup been there done that once in the Spirit of 76.
I would guess some where near the MO, KS line. When I wanted to do the whole clearing house, etc, etc, etc...I was looking in MO. For other reasons as well as a central location.
