Fox, I like your feeling about unifying wagon owners/lovers. Given enough notice, I'd love to participate in something like this. My local Red Bank, NJ show only gets a few wagons and I'd love to see acres of them in the same place (to go along with the acres of woodgrain di-noc on my CP).

Putting on a show, big or small, takes alot of planning, alot of time, and a financial investment on someone's part. And if it rains that weekend, all those plans and the money invested are likely gone. Even if you can use your hotel's parking lot or a public park for the show to avoid paying for a venue, you still have liability insurance to protect the organizers and helping volunteers in the event of damage or injury at the show.
I suggest a different approach, at least to start. Whether regional shows or just one show is held for the year, pick a large already existing event and hold the show or gathering at the event.
For example, Fall and Spring Carlisle are 4 day swap meet events that have always been held without a corresponding car show. However, It looks like starting this year, they will be doing a Sunday cruise in on the grounds for Spring and Fall Carlisle (many of the vendors pack up and leave on Sunday, so there should be plenty of space available). http://www.carlisleevents.com/ce/events/fall-carlisle/index.asp

So, and this is just a thought, everyone who could make it to Carlisle could enter their wagon in the Sunday cruise in and a meeting place and time for members could be prearranged. Since its already a large existing event, there shouldn't be too much disappointment if one was to drive halfway across the country only to find 16 members at the event ( been there done that with another club). There would be plenty of other things to see.
Carlisle is just one possibility. The Turkey Rod Run in Daytona, or the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, or Hot August Nights, or Cruisin Ocean City, are just a few other possibilities.
It may or may not be possible to park the wagons together at all these shows, but, doing an informal gathering at a larger show solves alot of the issues involved in arranging a car show.

It's dreams that keep you alive and motivated! Our dream is finishing our projects, the franklin, the buick, the ford ranch wagon... Yeah, a wagon meet would be great! And in a few years... when Duke can walk longer distances... We will definitely cross the ocean again... Canada is also fine for us, then we can see Tedy's blue lakes...

Foxy, I am just now seeing this wonderful thread, and I must say, it will take me a while to read through, and figure out just what I think about it. I'm very much like you, in that I am not really much of a "CLUB" guy, but I sure like the people that gravitate to this forum, and getting the chance to actually have a meet sounds wonderful. :2_thumbs_up_-_anima

I agree Wix. I've always been a bit of a lone wolf type with little interest in groups or clubs but there's just so many genuinely great folks here that a meetup would be well worth doing.

the wagonfest is technically 91-96 gm wagons....however last year we had a 60's buick wagon show up and an 80s colony park....they seemed to be welcomed!

the reason wf was 91-96 gm wagons....It was originally a customer appreciation day for north star motors (a small car dealer in waterloo NY that sold only 91-96 gm wagons). It then grew into more than just customers.

WTH...IDAHO!?? Dayum...why not just have it in your YARD??:biglaugh::biglaugh:
WOODIESTOCK....:biglaugh:...what a great name for an old woody wagon show. Very creative for an over the hill hippie.:29::clap:
And, regarding BIG dreams? Seriously...I only brushed lightly over a very few things in my original post. The master plan is considerably larger, more cohesive and absolutely doable. If it was 20 years ago and I was still in business I would definitely pursue the plan and bring it to fruition. These kinds of plans are what I did for national and international corporations during my Marketing/Advertising career. I would love to see my plan for this forum and for the station wagon evolve into reality before I kick the proverbial bucket, but; when you age you slow down and, also, realize your present short comings and time becomes an enemy. I guess that's why I now call it a dream instead of, like back in my day, a market block buster.:D
