It's a series of five flashes each with no pauses during each set of five. And, there is not a Code 55 listed. What a screwy system.

There's been a change: In 2006 Ford stated in the TSB 06-14-4 it was now ok to use Mercon V in 1980-1993 AOD Tranmissions.

I have it in my AOD in the 92 Tbird for two years with no problems.

The Mercon is just fine in the transmissions. Just don't use it in the power steering. The viscosity is incorrect, and you can blow out the segment shaft seal prematurely. They fail at about 30 years or 175,000 miles, anyway, most of the time.

Did some shopping around for a window tint job on the Merc today. Prices ranged from $225 to $400(!) to do the entire car...minus the front windshield, of course. That car is one big greenhouse, to be sure! With dark blue leather seats, I decided that a tint job is mandatory.

I've been looking at the front sheet metal on my Merc. Then I looked at the front of an '87 Lincoln Town Car...My brain started spinning, and I've come to the conclusion that I can take the Lincoln hood and front fascia (bumper, grille and everything in front of the front fender line), and transplant that to the Mercury...voila! instant Lincoln Town Car woody wagon!

It does not appear that it is anything other than a bolt-on mod to the Colony Park! Whatcha think???

I want to see pictures - can you photo shop something to give a visual? What ever, its a great idea if it pans out. Even if there is some minor modifications, the outcome would be very unique.

    Just do it!!!!!:thumbs2:

    I can't 'shop s#!t, unfortunately.

I would then delete all of the exterior Mercury indications, leave the Lincoln emblem on the front fascia, the hood ornament would be Lincoln, and I'd put the Lincoln star emblem on the tailgate. Bonus points if I could score a blue leather interior car so I could swap front seats, and all four interior door panels!

Well, get it done and post pictures. I'd really like to see how it looks. In my mind I can sort of visualize it and I think it would be really neat. It would certainly cause people to stop and take a second look.(y)

    Gotta do something, right?

I'm off to the local Lincoln/Cadillac scrap yard tomorrow to double-check the fit and interchange possibility. Just looking at pics of the '88 LTC and my '91 GM front ends, suggest this is a bolt-on swap in ALMOST every way. The thing that concerns me is the contour line on the GM is not on the Lincoln. This might require the use of the Lincoln fenders and doors, too. This is hidden by the upper trim of the Colony Park; but, the inside of the GM front fenders do not appear to dip as far down as the TC fenders do. I must take a lot of Lincoln pics and mull this about.

    Sorry for the giganto pics!

Nope. No Lincoln wagon. The big issue is the contour line on the GM, along with the height of the fender peak between the two cars is different. It can be done, but the best way would be to also take the fenders, doors and the upper quarter skins off the Lincoln and do some serious grafting to cover the wagon rear quarter upper contour line. then, and only then, would the build look right. I think we'd have seen others if it were just a front fascia and hood swap.

    My mind continues to mull...

    A shame I tell you, a shame.....

Yup - the beauty lines on the TC don't match up. If you compare Patrick's pics above, you'll see the upper beauty line on the GM is about 5-6" below the belt molding, while on the TC it's only about 2 1/2" or so...... The panels themselves also have different contours, the TC being a lot flatter.

I maybe have seen a pic of only one wagon were somebody took the trouble of changing all the outer sheet metal on a Colony Park to Lincoln TC stuff. A serious undertaking.

I changed out the aluminum finned wheels on the GM for a set of 15" chrome smoothies that I've had on my '66 Dodge Coronet 500. The Merc wheels/tires are stacked in the shop, and the Coronet got a set of stock 14" steelies with new tires...

Might have to get those 14" Torq-Thrusts that I know of for sale, to go on the Coronet.

I've recently learned to "paint" woodgrain, so that is the next big thing for the Colony Park. It's the thought of pulling both layers of the old woodgrain off and prepping the surface that makes me hesitant, because once that old stuff it off on any panel, the commitment is there!
