When it comes to technology, I am what I call a 'late resistor' which is the opposite of an early adopter. I simply will not replace technology that does what I need just because something new and improved has hit the market. I'm not so sure that the new IS improved. Often times, it does not do the same job, or if it does, it does it in a way that is less convenient that the tools I already have. Some technology is a real improvement. I have no desire to go back to points and condensers for example, but I do keep a spare ignition control module in the trunk just in case. Mind you, at -40 or colder, I don't even want to think about starting anything fuel injected. I've seen computers fry at those temps. I'll take a good carb any day for those conditions. My boats always start on the first turn of the key.
U.S. stores are full of this thinking. It's all the fault of the marketing people. Change the location of a button or switch, or give a device a new color, or make the little cereal bits a size bigger (or smaller) and suddenly you've got a product that's "new and improved". My bugaboo is digital watches. Hate 'em. Watch being electronic is OK, but what's wrong with a dial face? Easier to read than digital.
There are kids today that can't even READ an analog watch or clock! Tell them it's "ten to" or "quarter to" and you get the deer in the headlights!
my computer is 10 or 12 years old as is my cell phone...and my 1 car that has a CD is a 10 stack CD player ....tell ya anything
Rev: Gotcha beat. ONE car, with a carburetor, and it has a cassette tape deck that was an aftermarket upgrade from the factory 8-Track!
In the interest of honesty, though, I do have admit that NORA is running a 200 amp PowerMaster alternator and HELLA headlamps fitted with PIIA ultra-white bulbs. Incandescent bulbs just don't do the trick. Especially after 34 years of use.
