Now that's a thought! A gentle nudge in the only direction. :D

I'm, not advocating one thing or another, just bringing it up for discussion.
My thought is that this idea would be very useful on boards that are very popular, especially if member count is getting out of hand. We're around what, 4000 or so, and if this board had say 10,000-15,000 members you can be sure that a vast number of them are not contributing. I guess the idea is that if one were to implement this sort of thing at an earlier stage it would help control the "bogus" registrations, for lack of a better term. I think it would help maintain the quality of the board and help managing it as it gets bigger.
Prune the dead weight before it gets out of hand.

I've stayed away from this discussion until now because I've been thinking about what I would want. I don't know about if there is an administrative burdon by non-participating members but:

    1. So what if someones logging in to read and learn and says nothing.
    2. I've been a member of one board for over 5 years and have posted less than 50 times. Another board less than 20. What does it hurt?
    3. Why is a non-participant dead weight? What if the person truely doesn't think he/she can contribute. There are many subjects that I just stay out of so I don't pass mis-information, which I have done before...The result is not pretty.:rofl2:

Just my thinking. I do agree that joining just to sell is a bit bogus.

Yeah, tbird has it right. There's really no administrative burden on the members. That's something for Stefan to look at. We have a pretty good sense of the hit-n-run seagull folk and we can always ignore them. Mind you some like the UK gals (Dyna?) left us with a complete plan for a DIY rotisserie, and left a couple months later. A few have just come to reminisce and show us they still have dad's or mom's 1960's landyacht and went away.

We're a family entertainment site because our cars are family machines. Warm and fuzzy, until the seagull splats on the roof! :biglaugh:

I dont see a problem with this. Deleting members is a pain, especially if they have posted and have attachments in the gallery as it requires manual work to completely delete a member.

and when they call and cry...all we say is ..'if its so important...then where were you for 90 days?"......they usually dont have an answer:p...not a good one anyhow:rofl2:

    but...like i said...on it ...we dont want 'lurkers'...thats all..:yup:

Got a point Ian. Those that dare to come and stay, soon find that we help them spend their money. :rofl2: Probably better to lurk for a while, until they find that we just direct them to where they can spend it and get real value. :D
