Sometimes, Italian emigrants deserved it; sometimes they didn't (Sacco and Vanzetti e.g.).

I dislike the lack of public spirit, civic attitudes, sense of civic duties.

    Let me do a comparison.

    Lit = Lira Italiana

    (year 1989) US$1 = (year 1989) Lit1,372

    (year 1989) US$200 = (year 1989) Lit274,400 (1/5 of a workman wage)

    (y. 1989) Lit1 = (y. 2009) Lit1.8358

    (y. 1989) Lit274,400 = (y. 2009) Lit503,741 = (y. 2009) €260

    Gasoline price
    in Italy:

    • 1989: Lit1,478 per liter = (y. 2009) €1.40 per liter
It wasn't so different than today (16/07/2010 national average):

    • gasoline: 1.365€/l
    • gasoline 98 octanes: 1.486€/l
    • diesel: 1.209€/l
    • low sulphur diesel: 1.286€/l
    • LPG: 0.647€/l
    • CNG: 0.864€/kg

I was asked by the OP to move the off top posts from this thread to a new one.

LMAO! If we split every thread that goes a little off topic we will have the largest number of threads on one forum in the history of the computer. Hijacking is a way of LIFE here...:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

I need to tell you this!

I tried, again, to write in Italian fora.

It's impossible. Censorship is inside the brain of so (too) many people!

And we also have a Constitution protecting freedom of speech.

In US based fora I never had such a problem, maybe because you care about civil liberties:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

That doesen't necessarily mean you can choose any E.U. country out of which you desire to live there, unfortunately. If you are independently wealthy, you could choose. If not, you have to have employment, first. It kind of sucks, because the E.U. is as old as Jaunty and you would think that by now they'd have federalized it better. Most E.U. citizens have no desire to move to another E.U. country, anyway. Except for Italians from the more unindustrialized south who emmigrated to mostly Germany, in search of work
:facepalm:In that case, it would be Padovano
That must be new legislation. The last I heard, Italian citizenship could only get transferred maternally
