It was! When I was watching a special, back after the last breakdown, fire, KIRO's story on it included that piece of KOMO film, and I saw my bro and my eight-year-old self again. What a memory.

Great that the kids are wanting to get involved. Nice out fit for changing oil...cool shoes. Looks like he did well, no oil on his hoody or hat. :rednose:

Had to take Mrs. OrthmannJ to the University of Washington for a Dr.'s appointment last week. We stopped to use the facilities on Indian John Hill and I figured it was a good spot to snap a photo as I awaited her return.

Was it nice and breezy? Every time I stopped there, it's always at least breezy.

I noticed that there are no more groups doing volunteer work to hand out coffee and snacks.

Interstates 5 and 90 rest stops in Washington State. Take your pick. Indian John Hill rest area is on the East slope of the Cascade Mountain Range.

It was explained to me that they shut down the coffee and cookies stands due to covid protocols.

I seem to remember they've been out of service for many years. Perhaps I've only gone by when they weren't in operation?

You piqued my interest Andrew, so I did a little research. Here's what I found, courtesy of the WSDOT website:

Temporary suspension of the free coffee program
Additionally, the agency is temporarily suspending the free coffee volunteer program at all 37 participating rest areas throughout the state, beginning on Monday, March 16, until further notice. This is a continuation of efforts to slow the spread of the virus through social distancing, minimizing touch points and limiting close personal contact.

    https://wsdot.wa.gov/about/contacts/rest-area-free-coffee-program

So, it's unclear when, if ever it will return.
