I'd cut a hole in the floor boards. Sounds like you've got a Fred Flintstone traction option coming on - two on the floor with overhead laces... Nasty when a universal or pinion gives up. Check the universal joints. Grab the driveshaft. If it wobbles, it's probably just joints - cheap fix. If it moves at the rear end, it's time for a new RR.
the buick dealer had to replace the pinion seal before i would take delivery of the car.....would a bad pinion bearing make a noise that sounds like a garbage disposal running empty.? note: there is nothing but noise, no vibration. (the reason i ask this is because when i blew the rearend on my cherokee (crappy spicer) it vibrated badly....i shredded the spider gear)
Is it a posi-trac? Could be clutch-packs in the rearend. A branch stuck above the driveshaft? Bad wheel bearing?
it was, i spotted the leak during negotiations and said it would be a deal breaker. they checked it and changed the pinion seal to fix the leak. i dont know what my recourse would be because i bought it as is, however it came from a buick dealer, off their used car lot not some side of the road pot-shot dealer. i would hope they would stand behind their product. cars that need too much work usually end up on the auction block....then "said" pot-shot dealer.
Still leaking? Top it up or take it back. If you don't get satisfaction, call your BBB, and State Consumer Affairs department. Certified shops have to meet standards, even on these pre-sale repairs.
well got a call from the garage today....pass side wheel bearing...BUT it appearantly has been bad long enough for it to damage the axle itself. the garage is going to try to save it but it looks like i may be buying a new axle.!!!!! like i said ... i bought her at a NEW car dealer....A BUICK DEALER !
oh yeah...been there...done that...crapped myself! ok so they used a "repair bering" and got that fixed...but there is still noise..turns out the pinion is bad. well well well....this has me steamed!!! the pinion seal is bad because the seal was over-tightend.. if you recall me saying that the dealer had to replace the pinion seal the day i bought it because of a leak....well now i have to fight with them to pay for this!
One step closer, now you've got evidence too! You can do it. Go get 'em! Is it just the seal or the actual pinion?
