Now that it's lighter I can see the snow is down to about 4,000 ft. We're at 2,200 ft. It's supposed to get colder so we'll see. The view this morning is like what you see in Ankorage Alaska. Low clouds over the mountains. Dank, dark and dreary.
That works! We snowbirds always hear of the great Southern California weather, and drool. It'd be nice to tell my neighbourhood mid-western dreamers that they check first. That's what we call prairie schooners. Those big fluffy ones looking for a place to land. Seagull dump.
When was that last time you saw O*C up there? We've been below 32*F here for three nites! Right now at 7:42 am we're at 39*F.
Some time in October or early November, for 0*C. Got yer woolies on? Maybe you can help solve a mystery for me. Why did so many westerns show the guy riding in the desert with a full length leather coat or poncho, sweating like no tomorrow. Always baffled me. Keep his body moisture up? When it gets really cold, like now, they keep reminding people to wear layers of clothes. That helps your insulation but the coat fabric (outer layer) is both the Air barrier AND the vapour barrier. When your skin is close to frost bite, it's also sunburn RED, then it freezes. The blood is trying to maintain the skin temperature. At -45*C, that all happens in under 5 minutes. At -20*C it's about 15 minutes. But I don't get the big body coverage in the old westerns.
Could be protection from the sun? You got me. Our snow chances have been diminished. Possibly Wednesday.
We're in this deep-freeze through Christmas. Our 'normal' Low should be -10C, we're down to -32C for the next 2 weeks. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2008/12/15/prairie-cold.html
This cold crap is getting the best of me now. I'm moving south ASAP. Florida was in the 80s this week! I almost lost the wagon on the ice today, took the corner by the catholic church in town, hit ice back end swungout, almost ended up bumper in the curb and rear bumper in a volkswagon. I was scared schlitzless.
Today's mountain view Here's what we've got so far. Even though the picture is dated 2001 this is our view today.
No hankering to go skiing? The folks in Alberta and British Columbia and Washington would skip work to be up there!
Nah, that was my problem last year, my tires were practically there. For once, I ave weight inthe back and great tires, I just replaced one this summer. It's just real icy around here. It's snowin out right now, not too much accumultion, but just enough to make the roads icy and slick.
