When I brought it home the wife said "You're gonna park it in the backyard aren't you?" I left it parked in the driveway in the same spot unmoved for a month or so except to put the tires & wheels on. The fuel pump died in her car & suddenly she needed a ride to the grocery store. On the way I heard her humming the tune to the Brady Bunch & on the way back she saying"I actually like this". She'll never drive it cause I won't let her but she can ride.
Good story. I can see her singing. Me, I'm teased that I look like Darren Stevens from Bewitched in my car. Bob, you must let her drive, then she'll get addicted, and support your pouring vast sums of time and cash into the car. Ditto on the wheel/tire compliments.
Thank's guys I'm going to look at a T & C to go with it. Looks like 70's wagons & Dodge trucks are going to Dominate now instead of A B or E bodies. Here's one of my other projects
Man, Ebster, you're a regular old timie TV celebrity! Hope you both really enjoy your wagons and being here among the other celebrities.
Thanks, so far you people seem pretty silly, so that feels like a good fit. I don't recall seeing one of those ultraVans when I was camping back in the late 60's. I suspect many of the camper vans were made up of plywood and fiberglass and the stuff did not hold up well. Along that line, when was the last time you even saw a pick up camper back? Even in rural Ky, I never see them.
Here in our part of Florida we see about every type camper around. Never had a truck with a camper in the bed but always liked them. Very popular in the midwest when fishermen pulled small boats. Seem to be seeing more newer models up and down the roads now again here. Sometimes we are lucky enough to see an old RV or evn a small teardrop camper pass through town. Our old UltraVan was another dream we may never get on the road. Made around 350 of them and there is a very active club of members. Several in Kentucky and Tenn. One I know of in Murray bottom of Lake Barkely I believe. Just checked, near Kentucky Lake. This is ours just waiting to be restored.
Who Me? We first saw an ultraVan over 40 odd years ago in possibly Wisconsin or Minnesota and fell in love with them. Had no idea what they were or what engine they had. Practically four years ago one was at our Wally World and things just happened. We bought another about eight miles from home with the plans to do minor work and drive it. But IT happens and Wally still sits waiting. Wally, cause my wife named it after seeing the other at Wally World. Told ya she was weird! Corvair engine has under 50,000 and runs great.
Air cooled?!! Wow thats so cool! I have never seen one before. Wally is a great name too. What does she call you Cat??
Stef may not police this forum often but others do. This is a family type site. However it just depends on what I've done lately and the mood she is in! So again, no comment!
Check out the pics of this car in the original ad here now. If that's not actual I will kiss everybody's butt here. We're going to find the original trim NOS one way or another. You can't hear it run! Can you say WINDOW sticker, original buyers order form, warranty registration, receipt for payment in full.
