Just human nature I think.
And as I said in my first post in this thread:
Ford, Dodge and Chevy all have plenty of pluses and they each have their fair share of minuses. Honestly, I don't feel like getting into an argument over this topic. I don't think I'm going to change anyone's mind, and certainly no one is going to change mine.

If everyone liked the exact same thing, the world would be a pretty boring place.

Hey Darcane. Read your attached article. Thanks for providing it. I’m kinda nervous about Ford. I too agree, and have for some time that their CEO may not be the right guy. He was probably a wiz at Steelcase, but cars aren’t filing cabinets. I was somewhat shocked, shortly after taking the reigns at Ford, he gave a speech at a tech conference in Palo Alto and said Ford could be out of the car business in 20 years. I’m not sure cutting your lines is a good move. I just read another great article that the car peak of 2017 may have signaled a significant decline in the business itself. With the advent of shared rides and autonomous vehicles, the next generation is looking at the car like a rental piece of Furniture. Also with a 24/7 concept, on call cars could certainly replace the second or third family car. There used to be an adage that 1 in 6 jobs were related to car manufacture. Don’t know if that’s still the case, but a weakened auto industry could have a detrimental effect on the country and its economy.

I wouldn't buy a new Japanese car, because I think we should boycott countries who still hunt whales. I bought my Jap car used, since I can't undo the original sale which counts and because I can't find an equivalent car of any other nationality which matches what I was looking for. If I happened to find something which was small, optionless, had 3 small cylinders, a simpler fuel injection system and could be used as a station wagon but made in an inferior country, I wouldn't have bought it either. Despite the harsh ride and whaling, mine is built well by persons of high work morals, has a reputation of reliability and longevity, if properly maintained, and the car suits my immediate needs. It's fun to drive, when the foot gets heavy, and is quite peppy for only having slightly less then 850 ccs displacement

To your point of finding low optioned US small cars. Good luck. The car companies caught on to that game a while ago. Take a Focus, give it power everything, and leather seats. Wah la, you just bumped your margins. The day of crank window, no A/C and radio delete Mavericks went out with Nixon and the gold standard.

I think I like your way of thinking! Makes sense to me and I've had a lot of car and truck brands. Even some foreign stuff.

Torsion bars are okay. But, leaf springs on a modern luxury car?
I like the Imperial's front end better. But, the rest of it sort of looks cheap, compared to the Continental

Here, the older Imperials were using higher quality materials. Maybe not as high as that year's Cadillacs. But, still acceptable for a car of this price. Since the other 1970 brands weren't using the amount of chrome as was used in '57, one can't expect Chrysler to add that much expense to their production, if the other two weren't doing likewise. Still, IMO, Chrysler could at least have kept round guages and have designed the materials they had to work with to at least a pleasing minimum level of aesthetics.
I think, where Leno's gotten his facts mixed up is where he claims that the Lincoln was faster than the Hemi Imperial of that year. If Continental had manufactured the M.E.L. engine one year earlier, he would have likely been right:
