Junkyard trip was good, got a whole poop load of electrical bits I needed so I can get going on the project again.

I will be trying to get some more updates down, so I can get caught up.

Well, that second update didn’t happen then, so here…

Saturday my dad went in to the hospital, minor deal but was there for almost 3 days. He’s getting better now, but sure derailed the weekend and first couple of days of this week. Currently catching up from this (and 3 days off last week due to child care/jury duty issues) at work, so won't be able to take time off to work on home projects for a while. Anyway, the second update I have been trying to get posted for a while now.

Would love to put a round gage dash in, maybe someday, but it is more important to actually drive the car, so time to clean up what it came with. Scrubbed it mercilessly and fogged black where it had it originally to even out the finish, then masked and painted with a Rustoleum Satin Dark Taupe spray paint. Yes, the dash is broken by the ashtray; the spare I have is worse…

Disassembled the speedo housing, had lots of nice cr@p in it and a very fogged lens

Washed everything (but the instruments!) really well with Purple Power and very hot water, and then sand blasted and repainted the top outside of the light housing (without harming the inside fluorescent green) and started reassembly. Used wifey-unneeded makeup brushes to knock dust off of the gages, and Brasso polish to clean the haze off of the lens.

and popped it into the dash carrier. Also added some silver paint for the edging. Still have some touchup to do

Dash almost ready to go in, maybe this weekend, er, later in March!!!

Also blasted, painted and installed the A-pillar covers

The repainted covers and dash top made the inside of the lower window frame look so bad, I cleaned h#ll out of it and carefully masked everything to fog in some paint to pretty it up. Helped a little.

OK, since I wrote the above, I have purchased a courtesy light harness and installed it into the dash. Also a new glove box lock/knob, so the dash is almost complete. Also found a complete vacuum harness for the HVAC, so pulled out the already installed HVAC and replaced the old hacked harness. Somone cut the engine side vac lines off at the firewall. Don't know why people do things like that, makes things not work...

    More when it happens,
    Tom

Just finished this thread and man what a job! You are an inspiration CG! I just posted some not so nice pics of my beloved '66 Tempest wagon that I gave up 18 years ago and just found again. I have WAAAAYYY more work to do than you, but perseverance pays! Can't wait till your next post!
