Do you have a DeviantArt account? I'd favorite this on that website if you put it on there and I knew about it.

I'm new to this site myself so I'm getting to know everyone here; that's certainly a nice 'boat' you've snagged. Plan to sail it home?:dancing::rofl: It sounds like you're gonna ship out of San Diego? If so, make sure you spend a day at Balboa park (I used to run model trains at the Model Railroad Museum in the Casa de Balboa, which also houses the Sports museum), to include the Timken Art Museum, the Spreckels Organ Pavilion and the Imax Theater (my faves), among others. Then take another day for the San Diego Zoo and Sea World. Plenty to see there, and more now than when I was stationed there in the late '80s.

    Hi Mike,

Is the '76 Caprice Estate wagon relocated to Australia yet?

Glad you got such a beautiful station wagon! It should be all the more spectacular after the reconditioning in L.A.!

    Regards,
    John :dancing:

Hey John, no it is still in California. I have been desperately waiting for some update pics but I have not received any for a month or so. I am told that it is looking real sharp at this stage but I just have not had a chance to see what has been done for a while unfortunately. While I think of it I will send another email begging for some update :camera:. I am told that they are really taking their time and taking good care at every change. I am also trying to chase up wood and even rubber door seals as well. I guess I will just have to wait!

I will load up some more of my favourite pics from the journey when I get the chance as well. Cheers Mike.

Just love these next 3 pics of the wagon against this old abandoned garage backdrop. This is somewhere near New River Az.

Lucky we didn't need any gas!

Check out the size of the cactus

This one is from a dodgy motel in Pomona. What do they mean by compact?[IMG]

This one is in front of a Chevy dealer down the road from the motel. We just had stop and look at the red Commodore far left.

I have a couple more that I will put up when I get the chance, cheers Mike.

Wow! Regarding the photo in front of the Chevy dealer - I did not know that GM was again selling the Australian Commodore on a retail level here. I knew they brought it back as a Caprice for police sales after the Pontiac G8 went away, but did not know it was being marketed to consumers as the Chevrolet SS through dealers. Learn something new everyday. ;)
