Hey, cool wagon, way to persevere on a great looking car. Looking forward to seeing the roof replacement pics, be interesting to see how a shop handles adapting it to the two door body. Thanks for all the updates. Arvid Svendsen
ARvid, thanks for the kind words! Anything metal can be fixed no matter how bad it may appear....having the right skills, tools, patience, and money will get the job done...in this case prepping the roof properly like I did will ensure a nice fit....of course common sense goes a long way as well....I will definetly post some pics during the progress as well...the shop owner, Mark is encouraging me to come in once/twice a week to see the progress
65, you're getting there. Probably a smart move having a professional deal with the roof. Hey, as long as it's off, have him fabricate a canvas slide back roof for it like on the old VW vans. How cool would that be?!!
Well since the wagon is in the shop getting a new lid I have turned my attention to the gas tank.....Going out into the garage and getting that foul old gas smell in the air has gotten old....I have decided to have it professionally restored at a local shop nearby....will cost about $275..Since this tank is not repopped it is essential to be able to save it for the long term....'64-'65 falcon wagon v8 gas tanks are the 20 gallon types....The tank has lots of surface rust on both sides but isn't too bad....I pulled the sending unit out and man it was rusty beyond belief...of course that can't be saved but falconparts.com has a replacement...I included some "before" pics of the tank.....should have it back by Wed/Thurs of next week
Update on the roof: Mark from the bodyshop emailed me saying that the old roof is completely off.....the A&D Pillars were cut half way down and carefully measured to match the new donor roof...he is going to carefully take off the drain trim on the new roof tomorrow and cut off the A&D pillars half way down to line everything up as per the measurements......so tomorrow amidst the madness of things to do I will stop in to pay him another deposit and gradually pay him off by 1/17/2011 as per our contract
call him and tell him you want to chop it 3 inches....wait for the phone to hit the floor good to hear its still happinin 65 lookin forward to those pics
Here are a couple of pics of the restored gas tank....It was POR-15'd real well and resprayed....Mark over at the shop said he had to let it sit in acid for a couple of extra days...He also added a ground wire on the corner which will hook up to the sending unit
Nice, that is scary looking, good decision to let that shop handle it. Whenever I look at your car, I remember the '64 Comet wagon I bailed on for rust reasons. Looking back on it, it could have easily been fixed, back then I didn't know. Thanks for the pictures, keep them coming! Arvid Svendsen
FAnnie, hey man if I can inspire you and others to get their projects done (regardless of shape) it is worth it.....If you lived closer, I would offer to take you for a ride when she is done!
