Well, those cable-operated mirrors are not such a great idea. There are 3 cables. On mine, one was broken, and the only fix is to get a new mirror. And the arm on a '73-'78 Ford is curved, unlike any other Ford. I am going to use the arm and attach a 1970 manual mirror to it. So no cable routing issues, just a simple mirror over there.
In other news, once I got the car in the shop,it turned out that BOTH exhaust manifolds were cracked, and that the pre-1975 manifolds ARE different, and that the last bolt on the right side had long ago broken off in the head, such that the gasket was blown there nearest the heater box, attempting to asphyxiate those who chose to use the heater. I did locate the manifolds, the right one arrived, the left one should soon, and I am told the bolt was extracted with great difficulty from the cylinder head. Now all they need to do is utilize all new studs & bolts and assemble everything. Nothing else can go wrong, right?

Well, the 1973 Galaxie 500 Country Sedan now has two good exhaust manifolds--the job is done. I am quite glad that I didn't try to do this myself, especially with the little problem of a bolt broken off in the head. I got it back in a blizzard--the Traction-Lok axle works really well!
