Excellent work!!! Can't wait till you get to take her for a ride...It's getting very close now, huh Doc? Here in Texas the way the "Antique" plates work you are only allowed to drive the wagon on public streets to and from the mechanic shop and to shows, but for Sunday drives or occasional drives to work on nice days you need to get "Classic" plates. So I went ahead and got Classic plates, but what I really want are real 1973 Texas plates. I found one, but Texas is a 2 plates state.
Well, we were ready to pull the car out of the garage for the first time in 1 year to get pictures for the new plates..but the wagon would not start. After trouble shooting and pulling off the fuel filter, we found out that we had a bad fuel pump. That was the easy part. When I started the car, there was a large leak at the fuel filter. So I tighted it slightly when it snapped the threads inside the restored 2100 autolite carb body. I could not believe it. I just stood there for 10 minutes saying....really...wow. I had to take the carb off the motor and take it to a mechanic that I hoped could fix it. The good news is I just got a call today that it is repaired and ready to go. I will be putting it back on sometime later this evening. I will post up pictures when we pull it out into the daylight.
wow...best laid plans, eh, doc? Oh well...after a year of resto...what's a few hiccups? Can't wait to see it out and running!
It's encouraging to see people restore wagons! I'll admit it, they're my dream cars, & this one is really nicely done.
Dr. B, should be no problem for them to easy out the threads and starting over, sorry to hear that what a mess to boot, I can sure realate to things like this, best of luck from here out and I cannot wait to hear that you have maidened your beauty.
Carb is now fixed and back on the motor. Now its raining and I am not taking it out in this mess. I will let you all know when its ready to go and perhaps some pictures and video to boot.
Video, video, please please!! Your project has been so much fun to follow, especially because you're so committed to doing everything exactly right. I'm so psyched to see the finished product. Hang in--you're almost there.
Great Job !!! I m restoring the same car in Germany, but with a lot of rust everywhere !!!! I would be really proud if mine would get half as good as yours !!!!! Perfect !!!! Best regrds from Germany Partrick
Hang in there Doc. These are all normal problems we encounter. Each one just makes for more fun when you finally get it on the road. ---- Here in the Sunshine State I replaced our Illinois tags with one rear Florida 1955 tag. Need to have them authorized then it is just like any regular tag. On some of our other cars we have ANTIQUE tags. I still need a new sticker for each every year. These are good for all normal driving. Very old vehicles here can get a one time buy HORSELESS CARRIAGE good for shows only. Good luck.
Check out the below video!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLYlitbdE54 That is my youngest daughter saying " OH YA!!" in the video, she is now 10. Here is a picture of her when we started on this project 4 years ago! Sorry for the shaky video. My son shot it for me. Also the car is filthy and needs to be cleaned really bad. I cant do it until I get the roof rack on since there are holes for the mounting screws and brackets.
