1967 Ford Squire wagon restoration

Easy guys, I might bust a spleen laughing so hard!

 

Sorry for the poor lighting. The squire is in the corner covered up until I get the parts for the gate. The great news is that I was able to find replacement parts for the missing pieces today! Found a used window switch and key/tumbler.

Pictured is the donor tailgate that was from a base country sedan with manual window and obviously NO holes for the squire trim.
The shop modified it to fit the squire. There are not too many good gates left. Even the southern cars had rusted gates, my car came from NC and the gate was rusted beyond repair.

Just a little flash back for fun. I feel better looking back to see how far we have come.

Below is the first time I saw the wagon in person. My brothers drove it from Charlotte NC to Murrysville PA. It made it, but just barely.




Checking how much oil it went thru...a lot! and no more of that!

What a good idea! A before and interim moment, expecially on a huge resto like yours.

 

I just went through all of the pages on your resto and wow what documentation....How did you get your bodyshop to keep focused on getting it done in a decent time frame? My bodyshop has had my car over 12 months already and it seems that my car didn't need as much as you put into yours....I have already put a flame up my bodyman's ass to keep moving on my project.....that has turned out so nice and will be a joy to ride for years to come

 

The car has been at the body shop 3 different times during the restoration. I have done everything except the paint, body work, and body panel assembly. There are times it has sat idle down there due to other more important jobs wich is understandable. But for the most part the shop has kept up with everything.

I work on other parts when the body was in the shop. Right now, I have to re assemble the interior, bumpers, headlights, and chrome on the car when I get it back.

 

Good news! The part I found, maybe the last new one in the US, works! It had to be the right tailgate switch for a 65-67 and sure engough it works. I got lucky. They are putting on the final tailgate weather stripping from restoration specialties on. As soon as the weather clears up, Im moving it to my garage and installing the bumpers, lights, and interior.

This is my favorite build thread. The incredible amount of work that has gone into this '67 is astounding!

I wish you the best in finishing it up, now that you are in the home stretch!

This is going to be one of, if not the, nicest '67 Squires in the country, Doc. You have to be so psyched. I'm so eager to see it all done and I don't even own the fool thing. I can't imagine how anxious you are to get it all finished. You have the patience of Job, for sure.
I know this is a stupid question, but you are going to go with the factory wheel covers and whitewalls, right?

 

geez....when did we 'sub thread' the 'restos'???

I almost went nuts trying to find them....

 

I have not decided what I am doing with the wheels yet. I bought the car with the current crown vic mag wheels on the car. My donor LTD has the correct wheels and I do have correct driver quality wheel covers.

I am considering going with some nice lower profile rims...
