I went through a similar debate with me this summer. My truck gets an unbelievable wonderful 15.3 MPG. No longer really need it because we don't pull RV now. Was gonna trade on a few newer compact car choices. Narrowed it down to a pretty red HHR panel truck with a weedwacker motor. (Small weedwhacker) Then reality sunk in. So I'd get double the fuel mileage. I'd also get payments again, which I don't have. So how am I saving money? Kept the gas gusslin big truck and just cuss and moan everytime I fill it up. But smile payday when I don't have to send half my check to some banker. :clap:Think about that fanny!

RE: The Sonic and similar or smalled vehicles.....

Unless it was an 'extra' car after I become independently wealthy (yeah, like that'll ever happen...), I don't see myself ever being happy with a car that small....

Put me into a different envoronment though, say Great Britain, and I might change my mind.

I would have an absolute blast in England driving old rusted jalopies (bangers that is) for a few months each until the inspection sticker (MOT) runs out and then scrap them at "the breakers". Corsas, Escorts, Maestros, Rovers (the cars, not the range or land versions), 3-wheeled Reliant Robins, Micras, and so many more.

Thanks for your opinions guys. :)

We started looking for another car for hubby to use as his d.d. He travels about 140km per day, about 700-800 per week x $1.23 per liter right now(it went down .03 this week oho). At the end of the week all we were seeing was another empty gas tank.
As Cat-T mentioned we too were struggling to make the decision, buy smaller car or stay where we are, emptying two tanks of gas in his Colorado every week.
So, we did it! We bought the smaller car. :yup: It's a 2012 Chevy Sonic LS, Victiory Red, 6 speed automatic. Here's the specs...

    http://www.gm.ca/gm/english/vehicles/chevrolet/sonic/compare-options-and-specifications#exterior

We have never had a brand new car before. Geeze the pressure of being the first owner. I wonder if this little cutie will be a barn find some day. :rofl2:
It was kinda funny at one point during the bartering. Hubby wanted a black car, I liked the red. The agent was having trouble finding a black car but had a red one that was $1000.00 more. Hubby said fine, he could live with the red. I wanted to know why it was $1000.00 more? It has aluminum rims instead of steel. So I suggested that if we had to pay that much more for rims we didn't want and since she wasn't offering do anything to help us out I suggested that they should put snow tires those rims...so they did.
As Cat-T also mentioned, we may not be any further ahead $ wise at the end of the week, but know we will have a brand new little car(not just an empty tank) that will hopefully make going to work a bit thriftier.

    Since...:ttiwwp:I'll post some tomorrow.

    Sedan or hatch?
(Hopefully it's the hatch and we can say it's a small wagon....)
