Well....I have to take my metal license plates on the plane to pick up my wagon. I called the airline and they approved. I called TSA and they approved. What will you bet that when I get to the security check they will NOT let them through!! Crap....you take ANYTHING on an airplane anymore!:cussing:

I thought it would be safer to carry them on in a small over night bag. Don't they screen the checked baggage too?? Also, I'm afraid someone might rip them off. Lots of stuff goes missing in the checked baggage. I don't know what to do. I have a real gut feeling they are going to stop them at security check. I would check the bag but it is SOO SMAALLLL. And has soft sides. AND I thought they would stop them in the checked area. No? If I had more time I would have sent them over night to Amp. Don't know what to do.

did you get the name and such from the person you talked to at TSA? i dont think you will have a problem. however you can call the TSA and get info just in case. people do this all the time....actually RV transporters do this many times a week. so you will be fine im sure.

You think I'll be ok, A1? I did NOT get the guy's name at TSA. Thought of it after I hung up. If I DO get stopped....can I run to the counter and check the bag in? I'm thinking of stuffing the bag with phony stuff I don't need like sweat suits etc in case I have to check the bag. Don't know if I will have time to check it OR if they will let me once they stop me at the security gate. If you know of guys getting through carry on with the plates I may as well try, I guess.

Doesn't Ohio offer a 10-30 day temporary transport tag? I know both NY and PA do, in NY you cannot just take your plates and slap them on a car you buy until you take the title and info to our DMV and pay for registration and provide a signed bill of sale and pay due taxes on the paid price. Any other system seems foolish IMO.

Don't take tools - if you have to go to WalMart when you get the car and pick up an elcheapo toolkit and spare fluids. Hey, you've never driven this car and for a few bucks it doesn't hurt to have them with you.

As for taking your places on board, the others are right, get there in lots of time to make sure it is not an issue carrying them on. Have a big envelope with your name and address on it that you can check in if you have to. Or a small bag with your name tag on it already, just in case. If you have to wait at the other end fifteen minutes in the overall scheme of things it shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure Amp will understand. Given what you are carrying on the flight attendant might just take them and put them somewhere for you if you carrying them on is an issue. It wouldn't hurt to ask if they won't let you take them on.

You'll do just fine. A big confident smile and being thankful is always the way to get people to help you out. They are so used to people getting PO'd when they are just following the rules they are held to is frustrating so when they get someone who is asking for their help and appreciates whatever it is they can do to help it is appreciated by them. They tend to take care of people who act accordingly.

This is exciting. I love it when someone adopts a new piece of machinery.
