Gone are the days when we could go to the neighborhood hardware store and get extra keys cut for $1.00. I think that was also when we didn't even have to roll up the windows or lock the doors while we worked or shopped. Also when the neighborhood old guy cut keys in his garage as a hobby and he usually wanted 50 cents each if he had the blanks. I even got original Model T key blanks cut cheap. The banks often gave fancy gold key blanks that only needed cut for your car. By the way, son got a new remote for his Pontiac for around $14 just this week off EekBay. Needs to take it to a dealer and beg them to code it.
