I could not have put it any better than that. I feel the same. In my own personal experiences here on the Forum I have never once been talked down to or told I didn't know what I was talking about. Everyone here is more than willing to help and I have gained greatly from that. I have learned things that I never even knew existed or even dreamed about. You are right. There is a mentality that comes with loving wagons and thus all that wagons represent. That will create a bond and a connection that will last no matter what. Maturity fits best I believe as from my perspective it is our maturity that allows us to police ourselves. We are all always respectful to each other regardless and that is priceless. Especially in this day and age. I may look like a freak but no one here treats me like a freak. I cannot tell you how invalueable that is. I know that Stef works really hard on the Forum and I am eternally greatful for every effort. For every person that the Forum has brought together... Long live the Forum and Long live the Longroof!
I may look like a freak but no one here treats me like a freak. As far as I remember, you are the only member who has said anything like this about you. Maybe you don't fit the STANDARD mold, many of us don't. But you are an individual who dresses, looks, and acts as you personally want. I believe most of us are mature enough to understand this. True, I see others on the streets with hair of different colors and lengths, many piercings or tattoos, which do look odd or different. And If you ask them, they will admit it. We've even teased you about your new hair color. But you are one of us and you ain't gettin any special favors. Happy Friday 13th. X ! Have to add this. Thinking back, we teased your Kia more than you. Poor thing!
Thanks, Cat. No one has ever called me a freak on here or anything like it. By the way, tease the KIA all you want. The only reason why mine is as good of a car as it is now is because of the help I had on figuring out what was wrong with it from you all here on the Forum and the work I was able to do myself on it. Sometimes it is just a little overwheming for me to be accepted as I am. I have lived here in this jugdemental small town region most of my life. People like Zoe and me are a joke here and are subject to much criticism and many insults. Things like "Freak born every day", "Baby killer satanists", and many others that will not be repeated on here. I am still a real person with a real life and that is how I have been treated here on the Forum from the very beginning; like I am real. Something as simple as kindness, understanding, and human decency, I get and see here.
I'm not sure why,but we seem to attract mostly reasonable people. No hotheads, no foul-mouthed know-it-alls (which really degrades the forum experience for me...). Sure, we've had a few dust-ups, but all of a fairly mild nature, and not too often. Maybe it's the fact that the wagons themselves attract this type of personality? I will have to say that (ahem) 'old age'. may have a bit to do with it. The average age of our active members is probably a bit higher than some other forums that we all might be on. And the young guys and gals here all seem to be level-headed Over on the 'For A-bodies Only' forum there is a similar vibe. Lots of older, more experienced help. Very few of the kind who type first, think later.
Can I just say that is just lame. It's 2012 for heavens sake, those kind of stigma's SHOULD be a thing of the past. Take it from a 44 year old grampa three times over who has a mohawk and zero gauged ears and weighs in at a whopping 120 lbs. oh and some tatoo's as well. (gonna get some pics up here one of these days to scare you all). My mohawk is gray by the way...talk about a walking freak show.
You and I are like brothers, Dewsat As much as this Forum is my family as are our beloved Wagons. I don't have any tattoos but that is just a big yet on those. My lip has a ring in it. My nails are long, naturally sharp, and always painted. Zoe and I are both goth in the classic goth sense.
I agree, I have been known to enhance my hair's natural color from time to time. So far nobody else seems to care...except for that man in the frozen food section at the grocery store...he liked it and told me so I think KK that you are on to something there, about the wagons themself evoking a general exceptance of everyone regardless of our differences. Like the folks that own them, all our wagons are different and that seems to be ok. Actually I have witnessed a few times, members here encouraging other members to make their car their own, "do it the way that makes you happy". And further to that, others are not only eager to offer assist but have come close to quarrelling over who's going to help. So thanks Stef for creating this wonderful environment for us to brainstorm just about anything. And to all my fellow members thank you for excepting me, with my own colored (sorry not blue) hair, to this forum.
I think what I have is more like a reverse Mohawk. Only place my hair won't grow is the only place you have hair. What I do have is gray. If I had a Mohawk it would end up just being a small stripe down the back of my head.
Damn Jim I don't think I have ever seen one of those. Luckily God has blessed with a hair line that has not receeded in fact some days I think it might be advancing, hopefully I won't have to shave my forehead one of these days. Oh and I have a long ghotee and long sideburns, so by people my age terms I am far from the norm, It's probably why I fit in here so well.
HA HA ! I like this forum because I am finding more out about the members. I am sure that most members are of the older variety but there are also several younger members, and seem to be more all the time. That is surprising, considering the stigma that a station wagon is an older person's vehicle. Back in the days they were new and popular, they were vehicles for young families. As we see from this thread, we are not afraid to discuss anything, whether wagon related or not. I really don't pay a lot of attention to hair coloring, skin color, tats, piercings, or sizes, I judge people by the way they are and what's in their hearts. My wife has turned into a freak. For many years she's had piercings of the normal varity. Finally she got some tattoos and she's been married to me for a long time. That alone makes her weird!
Brothers...awesome! I gathered the goth thing for sure. It just goes to show it takes all kinds, young, old and everything in between and we find harmony in all this diversity by a single connection. Stef is a genius!!
We attract all kinds here and the one thing that brings us all together (besides wagons) is the chemistry of all these great personalities together. With the mention of wagons once being the vehicles of young families, that's what I really like about 'em. I'm ready to start a family pretty soon, and I've got two wagons waiting for car seats. I've got a bit of that father figure of the fifties vibe going on. I'm a mix of Ward Cleaver and Andy Taylor lol.
