My older sister played classical music on the piano, but I grew up rock 'N roll. I went to high school with Alan Collins of Lynyrd Skynyrd, saw the Allman Brothers Band play in local bars many times, even saw Jimmy Buffett playing for drinks and tips before he was anybody. I mostly listen to the classics today, Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, but I still like that Canadian guy, Neil Young. Here's an ear splitting video where he jams with Led Zepplin:
I must be really Old School, because as far as I'm concerned, Gordon Lightfoot was and still is (in Spirit anyways), the only English speaking Balladeer. He had songs about all kinds of historical events, some current, some past. The Edmund-Fitzgerald, for instance. Who else sings the news? Other than the Mexican 'Corridos' about the druglords. Gordie had a simple knack of passing on real history through music.
You GL fans will probably like this from Richard Thompson: (Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. )
