Ordered the new wheels, tires. Bought a CD player and speakers. Time to build another box for the radio. If all goes well I will have this badboy ready by the end of next week and on the road. Going to get it on Wednesday next week

Well I read everyone of these posts. lol. Both are nice wagons, I love the 73 Chevy wagons, but more partial to the Caprice Estate. If it were a Caprice Estate, there would be no question for me... OR if the Buick had woodgrain. I just love woodgrain clamshell wagons. Both are nice and it would have been hard for me to decide... I would just be happy with one htat I could drive... I have owned mine since 2007 and due to engine problems, I still have not even been able to drive it.

I am like you, when I was looking for a wagon, a 3rd seat was a must for some reason. I was lucky enough to find a 72 Kingwood Estate with the 3rd seat and paid a fortune for it, but mechanically its a hunk of crap and the car has been setting since I bought it in 2007 and its still setting. Funny how things work out though, my interior is in mint condition, even the seat and dash pad is like new, very unusual for a 71-76 Chevy.

Good luck with the 73, I am sure you will love it, they are pretty reliable - I have learned to stay away from the big block Chevys though, I have had nothing but bad luck with them. lol.

How nice is your exterior on your car Kingswood? Maybe we can work a deal out......I bring you a solid very nice wagon that runs and drives and leave with one that does not run

The exterior is in need of restoration, as its all original, but its not all beat up and would be a super easy restoration. It was a 2-owner car, the last owner bought it in 1984 and it was stored in a garage - she was the old lady I bought it from - she drove it alot from Bristol TN to Charlotte NC to craft shows. The hood/top have surface rust, woodgrain is still there and has the faded look when its rained on, but it does get darken and shines when you use pledge, black magic, etc on it and it will be serviceable for awhile. The car dont really have any dents and has never been wrecked, other than a small dent on the header panel above the grill. Bumpers are fine, all chome is excellent. Typical rust in spare tire well area (thanks to leaky cargo area windows), around some of the rear cargo area window trim and lower doglegs... frame and floors are solid. The windshield leaks, so I have kept the car covered since I have owned it. Fairly nice optioned car - 402 big block engine, 3rd seat, 4-season A/C, tilt steering wheel, AM radio, towing package, luggage rack and deluxe finned wheelcovers... does not have power gate option however. All lights work, radio does not.

I paid $4000 CASH for the car in August of 2007. Car ran and moved, but had low power, that was an ongoing deal, paid a guy $500 to replace cam and lifters, still no power. Changed plugs, plug wires, points, set timing, rebuilt carburator, etc, still not even enough power to pull up my hill from a stop. Took front of engine apart again to replace timing chain, then stopped and thats where it is today. Someone said it may need the distributor replaced, wish I had of known that before I took the front of the engine down again. I would love nothing more than to be able to drive this car, it was my dream to own a 71-74 Caprice Estate wagon and this one was in town, so I snatched it up, but my dream has not ended well. lol.

My dad was going to have it totally restored for me when he got his "big retirement", but that has been a hassle/slow go, so its not happened yet, so have been a little frustrated. I was going to actually try to find someone within the next month or so to come and work on it for me. I just dont have time with working full time and ill grandparents I help take care of.

Not sure what to do at this point, I had thought about selling it, but know I cant get for it what I have invested, which is about $5000 now. Then I had thought about trading it for another wagon (really want a 73 Caprice Estate or early 70s Grand Safari), but have not really found any up for trade or anyone interested... then I have the fever for a classic late 50s or early 60s sedan and had thought about maybe advertising to try to trade for one of those, but nothing definite yet of what I want to do. You know how it is. lol.

Post pics of both together? Besides having no bumperettes and a fresh drivetrain, I'd stick with the Buick. However I am more into Buicks and like the color better on it. I bet the Chevy will be good too. Good luck on finding a Caprice. I'll keep my eyes open.

To give you an idea of how my car is now, I put an updated pic on the what have you done to your wagon lately thread... it looks bad though where its been setting and not cleaned up. I really need to get it out of that hole and get it cleaned up and the engine put back together.
