    stuff

(1)And how much does it cost to print up a dollar?A five?A ten?The bigger the bill, the more economical it is.Print a bunch of $100's and we can keep the penny.
(2)FDR figured out;you fix the economy from the bottom up,not from the top down.Rich people hold money, invest money, put money in savings accounts.Poor people put money in checking accounts and spend it.And THAT'S the economy, people SPENDING money...Realizing this made FDR a semi-socialist,however.Rich folk like the Bush's thought he was a traitor to the rich.

    hydrogen cars

In outer space,in a controlled atmosphere, the fuel cells work great. Here on Earth, contaminants can enter into the fuel cell system and ruin them.If you think buying batteries for a hybrid or an electric is expensive, wait till you have to buy a new fuel cell.:slap:

I must respectfully disagree. FDR simply proved that by spreading the misery around, you can amass considerable political power at the expense of economic freedom.

    FDR and stuff

The work programs were helping bring the country out of the Depression, when the Dustbowl started. They operated on the premise of;give one banker a million dollars, only the banker benefits from it/give a million poor people a dollar each, they spend them, reaping benefits all the way to the top of the money chain. It's the big idea behind Economic Stimulus Programs. And,eventually, the banker has the million dollars anyway. In the meantime, the million dollars has helped the economy. No,the work programs were not a quick fix. They weren't even going to fix it for good. You really can't do that. But they were doing what they were intended to do.Give people with no jobs,jobs---cause cash flow from the bottom up.Create inexpensive infrastructure...Trickle down has even less benefits...And,it's true,it took WW2 to truly fix what 1929 had screwed up.The focus of the work programs was changed, from things like the Tennessee Valley Authority to The War Effort.
AND,cars that run on CNG aren't a bad idea, either. You can fill 'em up at home.Proponents claim they make less smog,or smog that's not as bad,or something...I understand you end up with less horsepower, though.

sorry folks but as history major in college FDR has to one of the most overrated presidents in history. He was elected on promises on balancing the budget and eliminating the high unemployment rate that had begun since the 1929 stock market crash, he even ran to the right of Herbert Hoover. He even attacked Hoover's economic recovery programs as a violation of state's rights and unconstitutional (he was right on that). But he continued what Hoover began and busted the budget further (started the oxymoron known as deficit spending) and unemployment continued unabated until WW2. Which he campaigned as an anti-war isolationist in 1940 rather than have the courage to argue for taking on the threat of the Axis until Pearl Harbor. Just my two cents.

As for CNG, I have heard there are safety risks involved about converting a car to run on CNG. On local talk radio show a caller talked about an experience he had converting a Chevy Cargo Van of his to run on CNG. After a few weeks the engine caught on fire going down the highway. Fortunately he had time to pull over and get out before it exploded.

    those things

I WAS operating on the understanding that the FDR Presidency was flawed(aren't they all,it seems)And,like you pointed out,the vast majority of what WAS accomplished then, was done with this deficit spending and fiat money(has nothing to do with Italian sportscars{joke}).
Had also heard of problems with conversion kits for CNG.Although, the MTA busses here in L.A. don't seem to have any problems like the one you described(although, there is a lot of stuff that happens here, that doesn't end up on the news).Sometimes they're just sitting there, though.Driver out, hood up,work truck at the back. Not sure what's wrong with them at that time.
Imagine having a fuel leak and engine fire in a hydrogen powered car!..If it's only half as bad as it would be in a Hollywood movie, that'd still be quite horrendous.
    ARE THERE any Fiat wagons?:29:

I'm sure Fiat makes and has made plenty of wagon model. They have always been popular with European car buyers, as they never had minivans (lucky bastards) just MPVs (multi-passenger vehicles) that are simply small minivanish vehicles that are made for carrying up to 6 or 7 people. Many of them resemble wagons more than vans. The Mazda MPV was brought to the US market as model named after the model type from the European and Japapnese markets.

    MPV's

I remember those MPV's.I also remember, for a while, the Toyota that was also the Dodge/Plymouth Colt came in a three rows of seats set up too.Mid-80's I believe. But all available space was seating in those.A co-worker had the Dodge version. He was from Kenya, and in Kenya, such a car was a wonderfull thing.I had a fourdoor 79 Rabbit at the time(Does that make it a wagon?)They were about the same size, and I still can't imagine a way to fit three rows of seats into a Rabbit.Thought about putting woodie on it,though.:29:

The Dodge you're talking about is the Colt Vista, made by Mitsubishi. We had an '86 back when the kids were little around 1990. It was very versitle, had lots of room for a small car, and got great gas mileage. Although ours wasn't one, you could even get a 4-wheel driver version, like this one......

those Fiat wagons really do exist

I asked the smart ass question! So,I came up with some answers.I added seven for the Fiat file. Some new, some old.:) I like the older ones better.I'm not sure if the newer ones are available in America. The ads for them were European.:49: The older ones look like they may have inspired Japanese automakers, much like the Renault Dauphin brought us the early Totyota and Datsun four door sedans.(At least, that's how it seemed to me,when I was growing up):)
