Well, I didn't do anything to the HHR yesterday, other than fill it up, after driving up to Jairus' town (Salem) for a bit of work. Was over on Orchard Heights Rd (right next door to Bob Straub Jr. High, Jairus). Doing a bit of somewhat unusual work for me - a property inspection. Seems that Orchard Heights Rd has this somewhat popular intersection right at the crest of a hill, that if you approach at around 80mph, you'll go airborne......which is what some stupid kid did - one killed, two injured.

I scoped out a damaged chain-link fence and gate that were torn up. There were a couple of leftover memorial candles at the scene.

Just the thin ones, They are Cooper Trendsetter SE's that I had put on the wagon last summer to replace the dry-rotted tires that were on it...

Yes. We all did some crazy things when we were kids. It's sad that sometimes those things end in tragedy.

Fannie and Fox, you are both right. Sadly, it happens so often. The way some parents drive and then expect theri kids to drive safely when they've been setting an example of the opposite for years..................

Took the wagon for a short cruise. Ever since I bought it it has just not ran like I think it should. So got it nice and warm up and brought
it back home. Pulled all the plugs and found that they are nice and brown except for the last one on left side and the second one on the right side. Motor has a little stumble at idle. Did compression test and found all cylinders at 150 PSI, reinstalled plugs. At idle you can remove the spark plug wires from each of the two cylinders mentioned above and makes no difference, replaced both plugs and both wires, still no difference. Verified firing order is correct, verified I did not install dizzy a tooth off. Nothing makes a change. I had the carburator rebuilt and it works flawlessly, other six plugs are nice and brown like they should be. The car only has 50,000 miles on it so I can't believe it has a flat cam. Anybody have any ideas? It runs decent but just has a "miss" at road speeds and a rough idle. I did not change the distriubutor cap but I visually inspected it and it all looks good, however it is a Japanese aftermarket dizzy and cap from autozone. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrr, its starting to irritate me

They are clean, white and not fouled. I am thinking a bad lifter or bent push rod or flat cam
The car sat for along time. Also wondering if possibly I have a vacumm leak. But it doesnt idle high like they normally due

A bad wheel bearing made itself know on the way home from work last night at midnight, ironically as I was driving a co-worker home from dropping his car off at the shop to have a bad wheel bearing changed.

Got up early, pulled it apart, realized the thrust washer was gone and the nut had been really cranked down. :slap: Sure was glad I had a spare sitting around.
I was planning on replacing the warped rotors anyhow, so started with this one.
Spindle had quite a bit of bearing material stuck to it, so polished it off/up.
Got it all back together in time to go to work for 4 including a test drive.
Tomorrow- repeat on the other side.
My wife is out of town for the weekend, so I'll be able to take my time and enjoy the weather and:pub: as well.

That is such a gorgeous car...it would drive me nuts, too. I think you are on the right thinking track. I hope you find it soon and easily!:thumbs2: Keep us posted as things progress. It could still be a vacuum leak even though the idle isn't up. Burned valve, flat cam, dizzy....any of the things you mention. Try the simple stuff first!:yup:
