    I'm about a week late posting up the final bit of carpeting but I'm done and getting used to the smell of new upholstery and adhesives. :dizzy:

    Yes there are a lot of staples but not as many as Mercedes used when this car was built.

    Of all my cars this one wins the contest for messiness in both dirt, grease, and oil. None of my other cars, when acquired, could come close to this one. None of them had any kind of protection sprayed on which helps.

    Working on through the car with mechanical systems. In order to know when parts were replaced, if ever, I am going through piece by piece and updating for my records. Two weeks ago all shocks were replaced. Today the master cylinder was replaced along with the front brake hoses. One of the old ones had a crack. Seems the rear line was replaced recently. Also replace the filter in the charcoal canister and out in a new hot stove tube which was missing. Front pads had a lot of meat left.

    That ran from 1130-1600 hours. One brake tube fitting gave me serious trouble. At 1600 took a ride down to ACE hardware to see about a repair for one of my watches and batteries for a few others. Small shop inside. After 30 minutes left and the car wouldn't start. No sounds at all. However, door buzzer, radio, and all lights worked. That tells me my battery is OK. So I think starter solenoid. There are two boxes in the back with all kinds of new parts and there is an NORS solenoid in them. Go into ACE as it takes fine nuts, not coarse, and I need a small wrench. Swap out the part in the parking lot and car starts just fine.

    Yesterday changed out the spark plugs, wires, voltage regulator, and all the old wire harness straps. The plugs were only hand tight. Not even close to the standard 12-15 lbs. of torque. although they did look good. Now I know exactly when those parts are replaced for my records. Since the car still has points I needed to check dwell, rpm, and timing. Last time I did dwell was maybe 1992 but still have all the equipment from 1972. All looked good there as the points and cap looked quite new and the cap had brass contacts. Then picked up my newly mounted spare as what I had was an old Goodyear H78x14. Noticed that I had a jack stand base, the hook, and the crow bar but no shaft. At least I have AAA.

    That deserves a mechanics' badge right there - working in auto parts store parking lot, going from 'nothing' to driving it home......

    The brakes on the Fury have been squeaking/squealing once they warm up for a while now. We have had a couple of people look at them and they say that the pads are good and the rotors are fine. It's most likely the areas where the pads ride on the calipers that are causing the issue.

    So, Naniel is pulling the wheels so we can take a look.

    They're dusty, but everything looks good. We put the "caliper anti-squeak" sauce on them and we'll see how they do.

    I've been working on a hybrid bonnet for a few years now, have finally gotten to the final stages of shaping and painting. The bonnet is a combo of my HQ bonnet, and a 76 XC Falcon GS bonnet with the early 70s Mustang-style vents. I have been pottering on a duel carb air filter housing as well, to go with the bonnet. Have obtained a later model dual-diaphragm brake booster and master cylinder, which I will fit later this year. Wheels are where I am always playing about.. I am currently running 8s and 10s on the wagon, but am working towards fitting 10s up front, I have a couple of sets of wheels, but am really trying to put together a sat of 12s out back, and 10s up front.
