Yeah, lots of us have beaters that get no love at all. Thankfully I have a 2015 Sonic for daily driving/ beating. The wagons are just toys that can be done slowly :)

    Thanks Mercman.
Yes indeed. He re-installed them the following day.

Good for him. It’s gonna be his one day anyway, and he might as well be able to tell his kids he was grandpa’s right hand man in keeping the ole girl going. Your bringing him up just right!

Finally got the Wagon finished and ready to start. Had to buy another water pump to thermostat hose since the first one was lost, maybe it fell into the black hole that is the engine bay.

Also, tried putting the new fuel filter in to the 99 Suburban 6.5 Diesel. First, the ring was too tight. I then used a strap oil filter wrench to remove it; that worked but it bent the old filter's gasket off. I then put the new filter in and couldn't get it tightened because the filter's too tall for the ring. Now I have a slightly more expensive filter option ordered for tomorrow, with the ring.

Took it for a drive today after cleaning the blankets out of the back and other items. Filled up the tank, too.

Thermostat housing looks solid. Ever since I changed the ATF last year, though, the transmission's been sluggish going from 1st to 2nd but the transmission's still solid enough to run. I had to make a stop mid-turn, someone was going about 50 in a 35 zone and I wasn't about to pull out in front of him.

Also, the driver's rear quarter's looking bubbly underneath the paint. Seems the previous owner bondo'd parts of it.

What sort of ATF fluid are you using? It shouldn't shift sluggish, after a fluid and filter change

The same fluid I used in 2015; Conventional Supertech Mercon V. Not high mileage, just the regular blue bottle.

I goofed up part of 1 of the pan's screw holes nearest the front end of the vehicle, though; I had to use a longer screw to get to the threads that were still there. Perhaps it isn't getting enough pressure, my Suburban's sluggish too and that's from the fluid being low from a leak. The Wagon's fluid level looked fine when I checked it yesterday, though.

On the Suburban Diesel; I changed the fuel filter, bled the air out, mopped up fuel that pooled up on top of the engine from a failed attempt at changing the filter and fired up the car today. No issues. This is the first time in months it's been on.

Today I finally got the Caprice off the stands and was able to get the wagons moved around. Now to get that Olds running.

Yesterday I swapped out the fuel pump/sending unit on my Custom Cruiser.

Put it all back together and put a few gallons of fresh gas in the tank with 2 year old gas already in it and.....
