I took the car off the jack stands, realized the oil level was too high, put it back up on stands and drained too much. I then kept adding oil as I checked the oil at which point the whole dipstick tube ripped out of the engine in my hand. I took another 7-14 minutes to put it back in. This wouldn't have happened if the dipstick tube were attached to the exhaust manifold as it's supposed to be.

Icy, if you're replying to me my initial reaction was to cuss. I gradually figured this issue is good though because now I know NOT to do that and, if it happens again, I know how to take care of the dipstick tube. Better at home than out on a highway.

My brothers broke a dipstick tube on a van, couldn't get the block to stop leaking oil, so they used a rock to hammer in a pencil....

Who needs a dipstick just add 4 quarts of oil whenever the lifters start clattering.

I had to play the "find the hole for the dipstick tube" game on Dad's truck 302--it wasn't all that difficult.

So that's why it took longer for me; I'm not yet married.

I'm not married either, but I do know how to find the proper hole when pressed to do so.

Speaking of holes, I drove my wagon for the first time in a while. The basement hole that it lives in took on a little water so I pulled out all the junk, mopped the smell of wet cardboard up and replaced all the junk. I need to add some stabilizer to the tank and maybe change the filter. It shut off twice while carefully driving out of the tiny door. Here it is in its place next to the wall until the garage is up B194FD27-4EB2-4617-AF48-FD37F3CEEE36.jpeg 3F8DBCC4-E90B-4035-8ED7-5201C8FC26EB.jpeg 5EB1C715-B827-4232-902F-E161E718E2AB.jpeg

Did it 'shut off' as in "it stumbled," or did it shut off as in "someone threw a switch?"
If it stumbled, was the idle air controller holding the engine idle speed up when you started it? If not, the IAC may be bad; I thought you replaced it not too long ago?
