I also feel the vibration in the seat not on the wheel. Guess I find out tomorrow. :)

Not much to report on the "Surf Rat".

Checked fluid levels yesterday and fixed the ignition lock cylinder which had jammed.

Also spent some more time finishing up the deluxe heater system so it is now ready to be swapped for the standard heater. The process is probably a two day job so I've been putting it off for months now.

Drive a little under 90 miles on the old girl each month so planning on picking up a set of brake shoes soon because after 6 years of use, she probably could use a new set.

(p.s. that is a pic of sunset on the Oregon Coast near Delake.)

Rinsed off the dust, started using a damp shammy and scratched the clear coat in front of the hood behind the driver side headlights. AAGH! (exaggerating.) I'm thinking of switching to Microfiber towels instead but I know what Larry Kosilla (famous auto detailer) said; Microfiber towels need to be wet first before they'll take water off well.

I replaced the front shoes and complete rear brakes in preparation to go visit the in-laws this past weekend.

At about the halfway mark, the safari rolled over 150,000 miles!

I haven't done anything of real note to the Fury for a while. But the other day I decided to tackle a little project I have been wanting to do for quite some time.

Originally, the rubber around the rear side windows on my car had a chrome strip in them. You can clearly see it in this photo from about 1966

I don't know what it is exactly, I assume it was some sort of plastic "chrome" that was laid over the rubber.

Over time it has basically disappeared leaving only the black rubber behind. The one spot it hadn't disappeared from completely was at the front of the rear window, although now it appeared more as a dull silver.

I wanted to to try and refurbish them somehow, and inspiration struck one afternoon as I used some chrome metallic HVAC Duct tape on something else.

The HVAC Duct tape is not a regular paper based tape and made to withstand harsher situations than most.
I figured it was worth a try. The worse that could happen is that it would come off when exposed to rain, sun, wind etc.

I laid the tape on and then used a razor to cut where the indention appeared on the rubber..

It's not perfect by any means, but I think it turned our pretty good. I've taken the car through the car wash and it didn't seem to bother it.

The car is garaged now, so it just might last for a while.

Replaced the glow plugs on the 85 Mercedes, I think two were still original since they had made in West Germany stamped on them

Sounds like it. And if they've been in that long cleaning and/or replacement will give it better runability.

One of the original plugs tested out good so I'll keep it along with the three Bosch ones as spares. it was a bit of a chore to ream out nos, 4 & 5 bores, they had alot of carbon build up, but the car starts and idles cold quite nicely now.

Thanks Fannie. The scratch is from my brother side swiping it with his bicycle handle bar when we were kids. It was an old hand me down bike, and the end of the grip was gone, which left the end of the metal handle bar exposed. He was probably 8 at the time. He's 33 now.
