image.jpg image.jpg I finally got my K-car wagon back. It was in the shop for quite awhile, the cylinder head was cracked and the clutch was shot. I spent more on it then I should have, but here it is. A 1985 Dodge Aries SE wagon with a 4 speed manual transmission . The wagon only had 70K miles on it, but it had sat since 2008. Kind of fun to drive with a stick shift.

I didn't actually "Do" anything to my wagon, but I did do something with it. Saturday was the last "Cruisin the Ave" of the summer here, so the family and I loaded up the Fury and headed down town. I was halfway down the main drag when I saw this beautiful 64 Sport Fury sitting in a lot along the route. I couldn't help but pull in and check it out. The fellow who owns it is from the West side of the state, but he has family here and makes It over here a couple of times a year for shows and cruises. I had seen this car earlier in the summer at another local show, but was not able to make the owner's acquaintance. This time he was with his car and we were able to chat for a bit.

We had a great time. My in-laws brought out the Ranchito, a coworker arrived in his 69 F-100 and our neighbors drove their Shelby Mustang. After cruising for a bit we all went to the local Baskin Robins for ice cream. I was a great time.

With all that was wrong with it, it should have been given up for dead. One thing the dog and the wagon have in common is they are both "Rescues".

Huh, all sorts of good photos here.

As for the Mercury, I coated parts of the tailpipes with POR15 (Rust preventive coating.) I mostly coated the exteriors of them near the back end; my sponge stick didn't go very far into the pipes. I thought I should coat the passenger's side pipe near its end in particular since I spotted corrosion there; it came from when I'd first start the car (water comes out that pipe then,) and the corrosion goes farther than that. It may go all the way up to the muffler, and after I looked under the wagon with a flashlight it looks like it nearly rusted all the way through on one part above the rear axle. Oh well, so it is with galvanized pipe.

    '58 Ford Ranch Wagon update:
Seems like every few months I am fixing some problem with the turn signals. And each time seems like the problem is something I did wrong.
This time it was the wires for the pass side taillights managed to migrate under the tailgate hinge and shorted out burning one of the wires connected to the light switch.
Took only a short time to find the problem and the fix the cause and effect.
So brake lights and signals are restored, but weird how many times I have had to take that steering wheel off to check the switch or replace a burnt wire.
