Just dropped off the port side exhaust manifold at a machine shop. Seems to be warped as there was an exhaust leak I just could not eliminate by tightening it down with a new gasket. Took only 20 minutes to remove... I love older cars!

Most of us mature men over 21 don't look real great in a speedo. And that cracks me up!!!!! :rofl2: But you are lucky. At least your wife thinks of you.

    Newly milled port-side 390 exhaust manifold: $60.
Fresh set of exhaust manifold gaskets: $17.
Burned thumb re-tightening bolts after heating up: painful.
Being able to hear the 8-track while accelerating.... PRICELESS!

    Fix My Wagon?

Truth is I don't have a wagon right now. I've had five since '75 and ready for another. But there is one thing I find confusing. When I was a young boy, long before I had a license, I seemed to get myself in just enough neighborhood trouble, (kid stuff) that when my mother found out about it she'd always say she was 'gonna fix my wagon.'

I'm now wondering if she knew I'd be a wagon lover back then?

ok so we got 3 out of 4 new tires mounted on the car and it started making a strange banging noise . put it up on the lift and lo and behold the carrier bearing is shot . so i guess it's time to change the carrier bearing and fix the crossmember, it seems like it was welded too low and hopefully fixing the crossmember height will fix this problem

I took my car in for a balance, alignment, and rotation a couple weeks ago. My regular mechanic doesn't do this. They told me the wheel bearings were shot.

I took it to my mechanic on Monday to get them replaced (I don't have the time) and he came back with a bill for 23 bucks. I said that there was no way that bill was under 150. He told me that the wheel bearings were perfect and in fact it appeared the brake pads, rotors, wheel bearings, etc had all been replaced less than a year ago (the prior owner told me he did brake work, but I didn't know to what extent) he said they needed to be adjusted and repacked with grease and I was good to go.

He also nicknamed my car 'the Boxer' for how it bobs and weaves down the road and told me to get new shocks soon lol.

I have spent the last month just trying to get it running. Finally narrowed it down to two bad electric fuel pumps. Also found a broken hydraulic line that goes to the rear shocks. That will also need to be replaced. I haven't driven this car in 5 years, but it did start and run in the summer of 2010. I guess it didn't like being ignored for so long. I have too many cars to keep them all registered and insured, so I pick different ones to drive in the summer. The '62 Chevy and the '63 Chrysler are headed into hibernation for the winter, and the '95 wagon is going to be my winter car.. if I can get it running and all the little other issues resolved. Cars just don't like to be ignored, and I have too many of them!!!

-----------Welcome to my garage...or dump! I've had more problems with me than I want to talk about. So I can't lay under dashes or under cars right now. Son tore into our 55 Chevy to update to modern wipers, digital dash, newer new wiring, AC-heat, cruise, and probably more. That was June of 2010. Shortly after he spread old and new parts all over the garage he rediscovered girl and moved out. 21 year old boys do that!~ I don't even go into the garage often because of the mess. SOMEDAY he says. Sadly, I always did all work on my cars until he grew up helping me. This was wonderful...until he left home to be with GIRL! So all I've done with any of my cars is dream.:(

Well, I pulled the vent panel on the '58 Wagon two days ago. After chipping away for 5 hours at some of the 53 year old seam sealer in there I cleaned it up and applied new sealer. Now after 16 hours it has not dried.

Indeed the 3M product, remains still soft and sticky. Was hoping it would skin over some so I could paint it with some rust inhibiting black paint to keep rust from forming in the drains.
But, need to vacate the garage soon as the car sits in the street usually and... it's raining outside.
    Bummer.

    Vent panel, Jarius?

Now you've got me digging in my cutaway diagrams to see what you're talking about. I don't remember any panel like that on my delivery and our cars are the same except you have side windows and I don't (and maybe you have 2 more doors...)
