Daughter borrowed The Way-Back Machine yesterday to move some stuff. Said it drove like a boat. Her BF thought it was cool......

I was replacing the engine in my red OCC, and it was supposed to take 2 weeks...every day I worked on it seemed like the actual work took 15 minutes, and the rest of the day was spent running around trying to locate parts. It took 2 months.

I have the roadmaster running again today! Turned out that the distributer was not the problem. (I assumed this since I was getting no signal from it) It turned out to be the crank postioning sensor. The plug was caked with mud and crap from the front end taking a dive in the mud (I had the boy try to explain this one and he couldn't). So after cleaning everything up and putting some dieletric grease in the plug (s) in question she fired right up and purred like a kitten. I cleaned up the inside (that will be a story for another day) and took the car to fuel it up and get it washed. My son saw it and said.... THANKS DAD for fixing my car! I replied I don't think so sunshine this car belongs to Dad! I proceeded to drive the car to work today (drove great) and I will do this for as long as I see fit. My boy can continue to bum rides off his buddies (who also aided in the messing up of the car) and let thier cars take in the miles and abuse. I will enjoy my old rusty but trusty roadmaster. :character0182:

So I spit and polished some more.

Round one as I posted before...

So been just a bit to hot for me, so I got lazy. So I've sealed the wood, polished trim (still need to do the bumpers), attacked the hood and can't wait to see it in the sun. Removed roof rack, will polish that trim tomorrow and re-install. Also did a number on the roof, no before pics as I think the first hood pic says it all. have to de-swirl, final polish, and wax roof but it looks great IMO..... No show car, man the old paint is thin, I had to be real careful not to burn through, but she's getting Purdy in my eyes.

I pulled the third row seat set up and all of the decking and the second row seats as well to start prep for painting all of the interior hard surfaces.

Right now its all been washed and awaiting surface prep involving everything from blasting to just a light sanding to get good adhesion.

Funny, it didn't look like this much when it was in the car!

I will let him continue to drive this one for now. Because the wife has pointed out once he is done with the car she wants it scrapped. she don't feel a car with 263,000 miles is safe to sell to anyone and don't want it laying around either. (I am sure I could change her mind but it's easier to let the boy drive it)

Dan, when you are ready to get rid of the car, if it still runs, I am certain there will be many here who will give you scrap value for it, and be very glad to have the old girl! That mileage is NOTHING on one of these big V-8 beasts! I know of one Crown Vic that is coming up on 1,000,000 miles! Certainly 500,000 is quite common, leastwise in my crazy family.

The kids and I just took a 10 day 2400+ mile round trip to NJ in the ol' OCC. Only issue was a blown heater hose in Knoxville on the way up which evacuated almost all the coolant. Happened right near an exit where there was an AutoZone two blocks from the interstate. Gotta love it! :yup:

When I pulled into the driveway after the trip I looked down and the odometer read 260000.1. :cheers2:

I am sure just remember I said that is what the "wife" wants. I am not letting go quite as easy. I have a big soft spot for the rolling sofa. Plus my daughter Nicole still drives one as well and at the very least I have a great parts car.

    Happy Independence Day!
Why is it called that? Because this is the day in 1776 that the governors of the 13 colonies signed the Declaration of Independence severing ties to the strongest nation on the planet at the time. It ended up being a death sentence for most of those men and their families... but it marked the beginning of the war for OUR FREEDOM and Independence from a tyrannical King.

I plan to celebrate today in the garage listening to quiet classic rock while wrenching on the car. Got a repaired radiator to install among a few other little items that I've been saving up for just such an occasion.
I'll take pictures and post on the '58 Ranch Wagon thread later. But... I hope to have my car back after 4 days of being stranded. :burnout:
